Chapter 40

Joshua emerged into the corridor with his rifle in hand, Ivory close behind, and they took off towards the stairs. From the top of the case they could see one of the security mounted against the wall by the window, the second not in sight. Tucked away in the corner hunched Maybella, knotted up like a ball of steel. Joseph hadn’t even cleared the stairway when he told everyone they had to get all the lights off immediately, and within moments the house was black inside.

Ivory joined Maybella while Joshua posted up on the piece of wall next to the front door, within speaking distance of the present security. When asked, the security told him they’d seen a single man running through the edge of the yard with a torch, they then fired upon and killed him and the second security had moved to check the back entrances.
