Chapter 24

DEACON

IT HAD BEEN a week since my lips had found their way to Agent Winters', and that was a week too long. As we worked together since that night, I found myself craving more of her. I'd never been one to break the rules. If someone was dirty enough not to follow them, it said more about their character than the wins and losses.

When people looked back at how I ran my career in congress, and when they talked about my life, I wanted them to say that Deacon Dick was a tough son of a bitch, but he was fair, loyal, and most of all honest.

That's why I was at war with myself over what to do with Willow. Fuck, even her name did it for me. Want to know how a man knew he had it bad? Yup, I'd reached that point because just thinking her name sent me zoning out for some time.

I could count on one other person to give me sound advice and never throw me to the wolves. It's why I had my phone out and dialing before I thought better of it.

"Hey, fucker, what's up?"
