Chapter 23: His Mark

I barely got a wink of sleep last night. If only this was your typical house visit where your boyfriend invites you to his family’s place for dinner and you just have to endure sitting through a meal. But alas, fate has other plans. I have to spend a whole week with Ray’s family who may or may not try to kill me because I’m human. Quite the predicament, I know.

Although I want to fully trust him when he says that I’ll be safe, a part of me can’t shake off this weird, twisted feeling in my gut, like it’s foreshadowing some kind of impending doom. Then again, overthinking things is my specialty, and because this is quite the supernatural situation I’m in, it feels even stronger than before.

My stomach churns as I squirm in the passenger seat of Ray’s car. We’ve been driving for about half an hour now, my luggage already stowed away in the trunk.

Sensing my discomfort, Ray puts his hand on mine, squeezing it lightly. “You’re going to be fine.”

I nod, and he smiles back.
