Magic? I didn't exclaim my incredulity aloud. I couldn't exactly deny something weird was happening. I stopped abruptly, and no matter how I strained, my feet wouldn't move.

"Of course, you can't, because you and I need to discuss some business, Kalini." The robed figure could have been an alien for all I knew. I couldn't see a face or discern an expression or mood. It didn't help my anxiety levels.

"How do you know my name?" I asked, hoping she didn't hear the high pitch of anxiety in the query.
