Chapter 12

I shook my head from these awful experiences and continued admiring the beautiful girl that laid on the bed.

She looked really young, and the dimmed light that illuminated the room made it clear for me to see her clearly.

I walked towards the chair at the end of the room, took a seat on the uncomfortable chair, and laid my back on the chair.

I sighed, watching at the lady while she slept.

The window of the hospital was opened and mosquitoes were already filing in, I stood up from my chair walking to close it though it was the main source of ventilation.

It was dark outside and the streets of Douala were still busy. While some were in their cars going home, others were on bikes rushing to their wives and children.

I had no one to rush to; except my comfortable small bed.

I wondered who Megan was rushing home to, I heard her calling her mother and if that was the case, the old lady would be so worried by now.

She needed to know at least what has happened to her daughter, why she wasn't home till now and how to find her.

The only issue is, I don't know how to reach her. Megan's phone is bad and reaching her is only possible when she gives her mother's number. That will be possible only when she wakes up from this awkward eternal slumber.

I trotted back to my seat, removed my phone to check the time, it read 8:12 p.m.

I couldn't believe we had spent so much time here.

Megan did not even show any signs that she will be awake anytime soon, in fact, she was so peaceful in her sleep.

I sighed, unlocked my phone with my password, and started manipulating it.

I had series of messages from some close partners while others were from my secretary at the office.

"Holy shit!" I exclaimed loudly.

I had totally forgotten about this, I had a board meeting tomorrow at noon and in the evening I am to have dinner with Mr. Mbi, a collaborator.

There was no way this could have slipped from my mind.

How will it not slip from my mind when u barely even know how it could stay in my mind when Megan had occupied every thought of mine.

I sighed leaning on the chair, I was the board director and the chairperson of tomorrow's meeting, my presence was highly solicited and a look at Megan made me know that I will have to postpone the meeting.

I knew that was not going to happen to I quickly brushed that thought away from my mind. I will attend it but will leave as soon as my presentation was done. I concluded.

It wasn't easy to come up with that solution but I did anyway, that was the best I could do especially as my presence would be highly required.

I sighed, stared to my left to look at Megan who still slept.

She was a sleeping beauty and I guess she needed all the energy she will use in walking. The way her leg was even bandaged, she will surely use it a few weeks before walking completely.

My stomach grumbled signaling for food. I was starving as I barely ate my snacks during the day. I passed my time staring at Megan who was busy enjoying herself. I did not bother, seeing her eat made me happy, there was no particular reason at all but I just enjoyed seeing her savor the meal.

Megan had this way of eating that just staring at her will make your mouth salivate wanting some food in your mouth too. It was with so much resentment that I didn't comment on this manner when as had lunch in the afternoon.

I thought it wise to go to a restaurant and buy food for myself and her since with all these series of injections and drip I'll cause the warms in her stomach churn.

That was a positive reason to hurry out to get some food personally, but what if she wakes up and doesn't see me in the room it will be awkward especially as I am the only one here that she knows.

'But, did Megan really know me?' I asked myself in a perplexed tone.

I just barely knew her and I don't know why I was glued to her so much, this was not what I could ever bargain for yet I was stocked to a lady like a fly; someone I knew barely existed a few days ago.

An idea suddenly popped into my head as I removed my phone when to my contact list, scrolled through it, found a number, and dialed it.

After about three rings, the person at the other end answered.

"Good evening, Sir Larry, what can I do for you tonight?" the rich voice of a matured lady pierced through my ears.

"Good evening, La Mama, I will need some takeaway brought to me at Fraternity hospital, is that possible?" I questioned.

La Mama was the lady that owned a very big and classic restaurant and Makepe. She was an aged lady of around fifty years and all her meals were exquisitely delicious. I always recommended her to cook my meals for every occasion I had in my company, or outdoor pleasures.

"Sure, we have for menu; Fried rice, Ekwang, Ndole and fried plantains and Eru". She listed them out for me.

Megan had Eru in the after, and I was really confused about what she will have now. I wished she was awake so she could choose for herself.

"Well, I need a plate of fried plantains and ndole is a go for me, but I have this issue, I have a female patient here, but I don't know what she will like to have. Any idea?" I questioned.

"Maybe anything liquid will do, I have a V.I.P pepper soup, it was meant for tomorrow but I can dish it out for you," she announced.

That wasn't a bad idea so I jumped into it.

"Should it be delivered or you will come and get it?" she inquired.

"Let it be delivered, please put two bottles of milk in the parcel, I will send the money immediately into your mobile money account" I explained.

I gave my details about where I am and before I could hang the call the lady's cheerful voice pierced into my ears,

"My service boy will be there in no time Sir," she announced.

"And please, add a dish and spoon to it," I ordered.

I knew she will even without asking because a job well done will lead to an extra token for her.

All I had to do now was sit and patiently wait for the boy to come. I wish he did before Megan will wake up.

I wanted it to be like a little surprise to her, to let her know that I cared for her, if not willingly then maybe unconsciously. But all in all, I still had her in my mind.
