Chapter 3

Her parents were attempting to persuade people to stop spreading rumors about Corinna's talent, but it was different from when other people's perspectives were taken into account. Corinna's talent for alchemy and medicine had a mysteriously gentle power, and when created, it would alleviate a person's pain and suffering. Corinna's parents took her to a magician, thinking it was healing magic, but the magician shook his head. "This child does not have any magic within," he said.

Those words were met with a meek nod from her parents. People with magical abilities were extremely valuable. The number of magicians was lower in Larissa kingdom, where the Balleli resided, than in other countries. Magicians, because of their invaluable existence, could adopt almost any country as their own, but few magicians crossed borders to settle in other countries. Magicians were a distinct species in the Larissa kingdom.

Though it was unknown how magic manifested in a person's body, it was well understood that it was strongly linked to lineage. There hadn't been a single person born with magic, whether it was the Balleli or her family's bloodline, and her parents had assumed that the chances of her having magic were slim. As a result, the magician's words easily persuaded them.

Her parents couldn't understand it, but being open-minded, they simply thought, "Well, maybe there's something like that too."

They reasoned that "God had sent a small gift for Corinna's wholehearted feelings wanting her younger brother to become healthy, even if it's just a little." That was a lovely line of thought.

If a person possessed magic, the kingdom would invite them to become a magician or possibly a saint. One could refuse, but even a low-ranking noble family like the Balleli couldn't stand up to the kingdom. Because her parents had no interest in making her a magician, they were relieved to learn Corinna didn't possess magic but was praised for her skills in medicine and wanted her to join the Ministry of Medicine but they didn't have much of the money to make her study further and let her continue what she does best.

They wished for their adorable daughter to grow up normally, find a young man of similar status, and marry happily. Of course, if Corinna loved him and her partner was a good man as well, status was unimportant. In any case, the family line would be carried on by Nikolaos, the eldest son, and they had no intention of interfering with Corinna at all. Balleli's people had no intention of marrying into wealth from the start.

Corinna, nestled in her parents' gentle love, has her hands full with Nikolaos at all times. She'd cuddle up to Nikolaos every day, and if his health allowed, she'd play with him. Her family had frequently praised her alchemy skills, but Corinna had realized since childhood that it was far from a magical ability. Corinna's ability would only provide temporary relief from pain. Some of her work was incapable of healing wounds or curing diseases.

However, the medicine she creates will relieve pain for as long as the sick are healed. To compare it to healing magic, which only provided temporary relief, both were of a completely different nature. Wounds could be healed by healing magic. Corinna, on the other hand, could only alleviate the pain; she couldn't stop the blood flow.

As a result, it was perplexing. When Nikolaos developed a fever and her medication was administered to him, despite his relief, the fever did not go away.

Corinna was grateful for her power because her parents had said, "It's because Corinna eases the pain that Nikolaos can sleep peacefully and recover his stamina." And, just as her parents predicted, Nikolaos, who would have a fever all night, would sleep soundly for as long as Corinna held her hand, and the fever would usually have gone down by the next day.

Years passed while she cared for Nikolaos in this manner, and the time came for her to consider her own future. Corinna was aware of herself. She was unremarkable. She was certainly fortunate to be born into a noble family, albeit a low-ranking one.

Her parents, however, were not the type to fit into high society; perhaps due to their personalities as well, and Corinna herself had never received any kind of tutoring for a woman of noble lineage in her upbringing. Corinna wouldn't even get a passing grade as a young noblewoman. The daughters of wealthy commoners were far more refined.

Above all, Corinna's life revolved around Nikolaos. Nursing the town came first, and no one in her family stopped her. As a result, Corinna lacked experience when compared to other women her age.

She wasn't very good at dance, and she didn't take much pride in her embroidery. The scope of jobs for women had recently expanded in Larissa kingdom, and women could now do jobs that had previously been dominated by men. It was said that the number of Scholars and Doctors, as well as women among the Knights, had gradually increased.

Corinna, on the other hand, was not a lady type, and her reflexes weren't great either, which was the most important aspect for a young girl; of course, her looks weren't exceptional either. Her family referred to her as cute all the time, but it was through rose-colored glasses. Corinna, being ordinary, had a calm assessment of herself. Corinna wanted to believe that she looked cuter than normal because she was reincarnated, so she thought she was just a little bit cuter.

Corinna matured quickly after Nikolaos was born. Corinna was at an age when she should be dreaming of a happy marriage, but marriage seemed unrealistic to her, and she'd rather think about a job than marriage.

The only area in which Corinna excelled was in alchemy. However, she was unable to heal illnesses. Furthermore, the effects would only last as long as the hand remained in contact. She couldn't take care of a large group of people. She lacked the intelligence to become a doctor and was uninterested in putting in the effort to do so. She wondered if a job that required her to constantly attend to a person with a weak body, such as Nikolaos's, or an ill person was the most efficient use of her time. However, due to the nature of her abilities, she was unable to care for multiple people. Only one or two. Corinna thought that was a wonderful thing in and of itself, and if she could use her abilities as effectively as possible, she might as well.

The young Corinna wondered what she should do as she gazed at her adorable brother's sleeping face
