I have no idea what he said to me. "What? Could you say it again? It didn't understand any of it."
The man sighed in disappointment. "You're asking who am I? I'm your father, of course."
"My father? You do know that I have no idea who my father is, right?" I replied back.
"I'm your father. That's it." My father said, with no intention to explain further.
"I don't know what happened to me before I woke up here, but I should know who my parents were, right? So that's why I need you to tell me who you are."
"What's with the sudden demand for it? I've been so considerate, yet you're asking for more. Is it that hard to be considerate of your own father?"
His response was unreasonable and rather childish.
It took me a second to realize that he's angry. Although, I have no clue as to why he was angry at me. But it's not like I could confirm if he truly is this body's father or not.
Anyhow, it seemed like I had to apologize to him so that he wouldn't be so grumpy anymore, so that's exactly what I did.
"I'm sorry, father. It seems like I lost my memories for a moment and I just couldn't recognize you." I lied to see what would happen.
"Wait, so you remember me now?" He asked.
"Of course!" I nodded my head in reply.
And just as I did it, the man ran towards me and hugged me tightly. "Oh, thank god! You don't know how worried I was. I thought that the curse took your memories away..." He sighed.
"Curse?" I couldn't hide my curiosity as I asked that.
"Seems like your memory is still a bit hazy. Wait, I'll show you." He said as his body started to change.
It was like his body was being painted in a mass of black mist and the paint was running down his body. And after about a minute, I couldn't see him anymore.
I still couldn't understand what just happened.
"Hey, what happened to you?" I couldn't help but inquire.
"I've turned into a crow. It's something that happens to the people affected by the curse." He said as he flapped his wings and flew around me.
"What's up with you turning into a crow?"
"You look disappointed."
"Well, it's not like that. I just didn't expect you to turn into a crow... Is this some kind of power?" I asked.
"Don't make me laugh. I'm a monster that can change into a human and a crow. Of course it's a power." He corrected me.
"How did you turn into a crow? Is it because you're a lazy fucker who smokes weed and drink frostys?" I asked.
"I don't even know what you mean by that." He mumbled before eventually turning back to his human form.
"Well, you need to have them urban dictionary knowledge to get that." I replied. For some reason, the most useless of knowledge came into my mind and yet I had nothing on me about my past.
"I'm gonna act like I didn't hear anything that you said in the past second or two." My father spoke.
"Uh, huh. So, tell me this. Why is it that our family is cursed like this?" I asked.
"Nothing particular. It's just a side effect of being here." He said.
"In this house?" I inquired.
"No, in this town." He seemed to have told me a shocking fact.
"Town? What happened in this town?"
"You know, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that." What the fuck? He's not even going to reply back to my question?
"Uh, uh, uh, you know it's rude to not give an answer." I complained.
"I don't think I'm being rude." He said, not even once bothered by my complaint.
"That's why I'm complaining. Well, whatever, but can you tell me what happened here?" I asked, to which I once again received no reply.
"I don't think I'm being rude." Oh, for fuck's sake. He's just being an asshole like this.
But why is it that he's dodging my question. I don't know why, but it really felt as if he was hiding something from me.
"You liar..." I mumbled.
"Huh?"
"Didn't you say before that this curse runs in our family? Then why did you just change the answer just then? I don't get it. What are you trying to hide?" I asked.
"Hmm, so you really lost all your memories after the monster awakening, huh?" Father sighed.
"Wait, that was a test?" I was kinda surprised by that.
"Kinda." He nodded his head in reply. "And now that I learned that you have lost at least parts of your memories, I have to explain everything all over again." He looked really tired as he said that.
"Cool. So tell me. What is the correlation between the curse and our family? Why did it affect us?" I asked.
"Ha... To explain that, we gotta start from the beginning. We have to begin from who you are. You... You are the heir of the Raven Dukedom!" He spoke, which was one hell of a mind boggling revelation to me.
"So, you're telling me that this shithole of a place is actually a fucking dukedom?" I asked.
My father started laughing.
"Don't make me laugh. What the fuck is this? I'm a duke? Is this some stupid joke of yours? Hahaha, you are funny, dad." I said in a sarcastic manner.
"No, it's no joke. You're the second owner of the Raven Dukedom;—I mean, you are my heir. Allow me to explain." And so he did.
As it turns out, my father is the Duke of the Raven Dukedom. And he's part of the royal family. Under his rule, he had many sons and daughters, and one of those children was me.
My father explained to me that I was a prodigy. I was the strongest of all his children. I was the one who would carry on the Raven Dukedom in the future.
"And now you're telling me that I'm a Duke? I'm not even 18! I can't even drink yet!"
"Well, that's surprising. It seems like you still have fragments of your memory. Also, you're not the Duke yet. You're just the successor. So, don't worry about it." He assured me.
"Ha, what's the point! You're gonna die in a few months anyway!" I blurted out something really unexpected.
