The truth

"But won't that make it obvious. And besides won't that assistant be already assigned to another person" Lucien said.

"Yes. The assistant would have to be already assigned to someone else before she will be reassigned to you, for the plan to work. And if you are worried about anybody finding out, I advise you not to worry too much about it" Bruce replied to calm down Lucien's worries.

But looking at the young man who still had a suspicious expression on his face, he continued.

"What did your assistant say when she told you she was resigning?".

"She said that she has already gone to the HQ to drop off her resignation letter and also for the assignment of a new huntsman".

"She said that did she?" Bruce asked with a bit of surprise in his voice.

"Yes, she did".

"And didn't you find her words a little strange, Mr. Lucien" Bruce said with a smile as he found the situation a little funny.

"No! Why are you asking such a thing? Are you trying to say that she lied?" Lucien said.

Bruce nodded his head and said.

"Apart from her being a lair, I think that you might have suffered a very serious concussion yesterday evening for you to even forget about small details like this?" Bruce said with a sigh as he was beginning to believe that Lucien really didn't remember anything that happened yesterday.

"Did your assistant Miss Alice tell you where she was yesterday!"

"Yes, she told me that she was still waiting for me to get back from my mission"

"That right. You see Miss Alice was the one that recognized your weapons yesterday, which made it more easier to confirm your identity. So please help me answer this. Where is the organization's HQ located?"

"It's in Lyon"

"Correct. So tell me how Miss Alice c.." But before Bruce could continue, he was directly intercepted by Lucien.

"She lied. There wasn't enough time for her to reach HQ in that short amount of time. And even if she did, she still has to write her letters and properly send them, but that still won't be possible unless…" Lucien said as his brain sprung into action

"Unless she changed her mind on going there herself, and decided to send them through the post office, which she might have done this morning before arriving to work. This also means that we can intercept her letters before it gets to the HQ which if successful, will get you demoted".

"That doesn't sound easy at all, you would have to go through some complicated issues just to make this work".Lucien said as he finally understood how complicated completing such a process would be.

"Don't worry, it's just paperwork. And besides, I have Chanel with me, so it won't be anything difficult that I can't handle. Don't tell me that you are planning to go back on our deal now Mr Lucien?" Bruce replied.

"No, I never planned on changing my words, I was just curious that's all".

"Does that mean that you don't have any more doubts, Mr. Lucien?".

"Yes, I don't".

"Alright, then. Why don't we shake on it?" Bruce brought his right hand forward as he watched Lucien mirroring his actions.

Both men held their hands in a firm grip before releasing them.

And it was at that moment that Chanel came in through the door with several files in her hands.

"Here are the files you requested for Sir" Chanel said as she kept the files on the table.

"What took you so long? I was just about to finish my conversation with Mr. Lucien" Bruce said as he carefully went through the files one after the other.

"Sorry sir, the files were mixed, so I had to arrange them first before I brought them to you" Chanel said as she proceeded to adjust her glasses.

"Don't worry about it, there's no need for you to apologize" Bruce said.

"Hmmm…It says here that your promotional exam was a task that needed you to exterminate 15 B-class ghouls who had found refuge in an abandoned building. Although something like this is difficult for an ordinary B-ranked huntsman, it says here Mr. Lucien that your skills were more than enough for the task"

"But since you are here with me this morning with no memories of what had happened yesterday, then it means that you failed your promotional exam and that you aren't yet competent enough to be promoted to an A-ranked huntsman"

Bruce said as he closed the files, handling them back to Chanel.

"Anf now that we have figured out what your task was, it safe to say that everything has already been figured out" Bruce said as he looked at Lucien who looked as though he was currently experiencing a headache.

'Maybe that was enough to stir up his memories'.

"Chanel"

"Yes sir".

"Escort Mr. Lucien to the testing room. There he will hand over all his equipment before he leaves the premises. Be sure to keep safe".

"Of course sir" Chanel nodded seriously before she proceeded to call out to Lucien "Mr. Lucien, can we get going now?".

"Yes".

Lucien who was still in a daze responded out of reflex as he heard someone calling his name.

"Okay. I'll lead the way" Chanel said as she walked out of the office with Lucien following her steps from behind.

"I'll see you later manager. Thanks for the help" Lucien said

"No problem. We did make a deal, so just think of it as a trade" Bruce replied.

Lucien nodded his head in response as he headed out of the office while closing the doors at the same time.

"Ahh!! Finally, some peace and quiet" Bruce groaned out as he released some pent-up frustration.

"I really don't know if I am getting too old for this job or I am just getting lazier" He added before he looked at the spot Lucien was once seated.

"No, I don't need to think about all that now, it's still morning, I can't let anyone ruin my morning rest"
