A proper plan

"There's something that I need your help with" Lucien responded.

The woman nodded in response as she waited for Lucien to continue.

"I was sent here by Mr Durand to check on the main security cameras because the ones on the 25th floor had suddenly stopped working. So he sent me here to make sure if the cameras were damaged or we're just faulty" Lucien added.

"I see" The receptionist nodded her in understanding as she began typing something on her computer.

"And what floor do you say it was Sir" She added.

"The 25th floor" Lucien responded.

"Click!!" "Click!!!"

"Alright, sir. I have notified our chief security officer about the situation. You can now head back and inform Mr Durand that the Chief security officer would soon be on the 25th floor to check if there is any electronic equipment that's faulty or if they have been damaged and needed to be changed immediately" The receptionist replied.

"Umm!!"

"What's wrong Sir? Is the way the situation is being handled not up to your satisfaction?" The receptionist said with raised eyebrows as she saw Lucien's dissatisfied expression.

"No. You have handled the situation quite well. But the thing is that Mr Durand won't be just happy with the chief security officer coming to check the cameras and equipment" Lucien said in an exasperated sigh as he continued.

"You know the way he cares for his daughter, Miss Charlotte Durand" Lucien looked at the receptionist as he said using the information that he has gained beforehand.

"I don't quite understand sir" The receptionist shook her head in confusion as she listened to Lucien's words, afraid that she might be getting in the bad books of another rich individual again.

"What I am trying to say is that some minutes ago Mr Philip Beniot had proposed to Miss Charlotte Durand asking her for her hand in marriage" Lucien could hear the receptionist gulping down her saliva through her throat.

So he continued.

"And during the surprising marriage proposal, an unexpected incident broke out, disrupting the event that was about to take place"

"So in fear and anger of what has happened, Mr Durand has sent some of his most trusted colleagues to investigate the matter" Lucien said with a sigh before he continued.

"And although I wouldn't have bothered about such a trivial thing. But you see Mr Durand is a very close friend of mine. And seeing his daughters' sudden proposal being disrupted like that made me also want to find out the reasons why such an incident had happened"

'So you can imagine my surprise when I went to the security surveillance room on the 25th floor just to find out that all the tapes were blank. So I took it upon myself to go to the head surveillance room so that I can see what really happened and quickly head back to report to Mr Durand" He added.

"I-I understand your concerns, sir. But we don't just allow anybody in the main surveillance room" The receptionist said as she stuttered.

"Instead, why don't I have the chief security head personally report to you after he has checked all the footage regarding the 25th floor".

"No" Lucien said as he shook his head in disapproval "I think that it would be best for me to go there and see it with my own two eyes so that I could be at ease when reporting back to Mr Durand".

"B-But Sir, Such a thing isn't possible" She responded with a slight hesitation in her voice.

"Alright. Then there's nothing more that I can do then. I guess I will just have to inform Mr Durand and he will come here to discuss things out himself" Lucien said with a smile as he prepared to walk back towards the elevator.

"Wait, Sir!! I can't have you going back to disturb Mr Durand on the night of his daughter's birthday" The receptionist said as she had a strained smile on her lips, trying hard not to wipe the accumulated sweat beads forming on her forehead so that it wouldn't be that obvious.

"So how about we do it this way. How may I address you, Sir?...." The receptionist said as she picked up a pen and placed it against a piece of paper she had gotten from her desk.

Lucien knowing where this was going smiled as he replied "It's Mr Philip Benoit".

"Alright, Mr Philip Ben...Crack!!" The pen broke into two as the receptionist stood still as her hands shook uncontrollably.

"Mr Philip Beniot" She said as she gulped while looking at the man standing next to her.

"Yes. That's me" Lucien raised his eyebrows as he said those words as thou it was the most obvious thing anyone should know.

"T-Then t-th..T-that means…"

"Yes. I have personally come down here to know which bastard had the guts to interrupt my marriage proposal with Miss Charlotte" Lucien said as he faked a small angry expression on his face before it immediately subsided.

"But since it isn't possible, then I have no choice but to head back to the party and inform Mr Durand. Hopefully, he gets here fast enough and sees what had caused the commotion on the 25th floor during my marriage proposal".

At this point, the receptionist wasn't just sweating buckets, but she had already swallowed down her saliva to the extent that her mouth was as dry as the Sahara desert.

Nevertheless, her body trembled uncontrollably as she could already guess what would happen next when she meets Mr Durand after dismissing his soon-to-be son-in-law.

But wasn't this too much for her? She had only been working here for 2 months and there were several times that she had mistakenly gotten into the bad side of most of these affluent individuals.

And each of them had always threatened to get her fired from her job which she believed would surely happen if they went through with it and saw it to the end.

After all, wasn't that how the former receptionist had lost her job after working here for six months.
