I wake on the morning of the wedding. The salty scent of rain pools in from the window. I sit up and blink the sleep from my eyes.
“Today I become a wife.”
The words of my scratchy tired voice wakes my slumbering brain and gets me up and out of bed.
I close the window to cut off the chilly air and look out towards the meadow.
The guards still stand outside, a few start the morning rotation and let the others come back in. The rain has caused many flowers to sprout creating a rainbow path down our crumbled walkway.
A knock sounds on the door. “Enter.”
I hope it’s not Cerulean, since it’s bad luck for him to see me before the wedding. At least that’s what I was told.
I don’t believe it for a second, and his presence would actually be really comforting right about now.
“Hey, little sis.” River says as she comes in with Bayou and a few maids.
“Good morning.”
“We’ve already checked, and everything is ready.”
