Chapter 30: Unforeseen Treachery

Damien places his hand on her knee, “Eshe, Damien is just as–,” she swats his hand away and interrupts him.

“Damien isn’t your real name?” Her eyes narrow, remaining fixed on his every word.

“I didn’t say that, I said–,” his lack of a concise answer irritates Eshe, her demanding tone nearly echoing in the car.

“Just answer the question. Is Damien your real name?” She tilts her head and flares her nostrils, working diligently to remain calm.

“No,” he avoids eye contact.

“What’s your real name?” She places her hand on the middle seat and leans closer, watching his face.

“I can’t tell you that,” he says plainly before looking out his window.

“What?! Stop the car!” She shouts while knocking on the partition behind Zeke’s head.

“Eshe, Damien is who you know me as. Why does–.” Failing to console her, she cuts him off.
