Chapter 25: The Hawk

“Alright, let’s rest here for a bit,” Janz announced, circling his white steed around to the cart and the two guards who followed behind it.

The cart pulled by the mule softly slowed to a stop and guards also welcomed the break.

“Great, I need to stretch my legs!” Shrai leaped from the cart. The sun caught her cinnamon hair, turning it red.

Heldon dismounted Midnight and rubbed and patted down her mane. She was thirsty so he guided her to the stream. As Midnight happily drank and munched on the water reeds, Heldon noticed it was a little too quiet.

He spared another glance back to the cart, only to see Tival had fallen asleep, head against the side of the cart, safely in the shade. His chest rose deeply and smoothly, and his curls tumbled across his forehead.

If this was Heldon’s first time seeing him, he would’ve sworn that this man with his square jaw loose, lips parted in slumber was as innocent as newly fallen snow.
