Julien’s POV
I lick my dry lips as I lie on the ground. I don’t know how long I have been imprisoned now, but it didn’t matter. Weeks here are days in the human realm.
I can’t remember how long I’d been away from Cionna, but the distance did nothing to cut the connection between us. I can still feel her heartbeat, smell her scent, and sometimes even hear her voice. These small traces of her became torture at some point.
The last thing I heard was Lord Balast had finally gone to war with the Heavenly realm. I hadn’t been removed from my cell to fight surprisingly. I expected Josey to strut into my cell and summon me to her side. Maybe she had finally given up on me. It would be nice, albeit late and a useless notion now.
The heavy stone door swings open to reveal none other than Josey and her loyal puppy Xavier. I didn’t expect thinking about the devil could summon them. I didn’t move as she stood in front of the bars to my cage. I have nothing to say to her.
