Chapter 42: Love Me Better

Josey’s POV

I heave a labored breath as I kneel in front of my father’s throne. The traps he’d laid have been changed. I stumble to my feet as drops of blood fall to the ground. I’m wounded, but still alive and breathing.

Carefully, I summon a blade from the shadows, and with the tip, I tap the seat of the throne. As expected, a sharp vice released from the back and clamped down on itself.

That would have been my neck If I wasn’t smart. Next, I caress the arms of the seat with the edge of my sword and a light blue mist drifted out from underneath. Quickly, I cover my face and watch as it eats away at my sword. The metal began to melt and corrode away before my eyes. My father spared nothing in protection of his power. It almost made me respect him more. Almost.
