He walked to the bed and picked up the purple pelt. "I hunted the biggest Eduki I could find, and defeated him with my bare hands." He stopped talking and stared at her. Obviously, something was expected of her.
"What is an Eduki?"
"It is a fierce animal, like a bear." His chest puffed out. "I fought it with my bare hands. For you."
"You couldn't possibly have known me when you hunted that poor animal." She narrowed her eyes at him. "How did you know about me. About the wedding?" Did demons know everything about everyone? That didn't seem possible to her.
He looked even more arrogant, if that was possible. His attitude didn't surprise her. If she guarded the gateway to hell and could prevent people entering, or send them in to be punished for all eternity, maybe she would be arrogant, as well. After all, he held enormous power over people's souls.
"How I knew about you is not your concern. It is warrior business. All you need to know is now that you are my breeder, we will do the first knowing." He stepped closer to her, stared down at her with evil red eyes. "I will not bargain about hours; you will spend time with me in the sleeping place when I want you."
"No," she whispered. She stumbled back from him. "Please don't; you cannot do this to me. I am a virtuous woman." Melisende was not the kind of woman to cry. Tears seemed to be something that happened with other females. Right now, she would not have minded rivers running down her cheeks. Maybe it would have persuaded this demon not to defile her.
He cocked his head as if her words had confused him. "Prepare to experience the first knowing, my virtuous breeder."
Melisende frantically sought after anything to take his mind off any form of breeding. The gleaming wall reminded her of her earlier question. "How is it possible that there is light in here with no candles burning?" If only she was strong. She looked around for something she could throw at him or hit him with, but although the room was sumptuously furnished, it had no ornaments.
"Superior Zyrgin technology." His eyes flashed that terrifying red. "You are stalling. We will do the first knowing, and you will be overwhelmed at the privilege to be my breeder and agree to many hours in the sleeping place."
