Today is the day.
My nerves are running haywire. I know I'm prepared. I know I'm ready for this. I can't shake the worry away, though.
"You ready to earn your badge babe?"
I sigh as I finish pulling my hair into a ponytail. Mei comes into my room and passes me my shirt.
"I hope so," I say.
"I know you're covered up, but should we hide your mark too?"
"I suppose it couldn’t hurt."
Mei rips a strip of my tape and positions it over the rose, hiding it from view on the small chance it could be exposed, and then I pull my shirt over my head.
"We should get some food in you," Mei says.
"I'm not sure I can."
"Nonsense, you'll need the energy," she states. "Let's go."
We head to the cafeteria, early as usual, and I take small servings. I have to be able to keep it down anyway; it'd be humiliating to throw up during the assessment.
"Lex?"
I look up from pushing my food around. Z and Travis join us.
"You feeling okay?"
I sigh.
