Chapter 17: Emergency Call

It'd been an entire day—an ENTIRE day that Alessandro hadn't thought to come out of his house groveling for Maria's forgiveness.

The previous night had been a sleepless one for her. Surely, Alessandro wouldn't let things end this way. Surely, she hadn't been so dumb that she'd imagined the goodness that was inside of him.

But no, he had yet to come.

And now Maria sat staring at the most perfect pizza, complete with cheese, melting beautifully over the crust, with absolutely no appetite. She tried to tell herself that she should at least eat it to make up for the extra delivery fee that the restaurant had charged her for coming out to her house, seeing that she 'lived so far from civilization,' as they put it. However, even the thought of the money that she was out didn't sway her appetite.

"He's such a jerk," Maria conversed with her succulent who seemed perfectly content in the corner of her island counter, utterly oblivious that Maria felt her heart was breaking in two.
