Confessions

The diner was small but the smells were delicious and had my mouth watering. A small woman looked up from the stand and with wide eyes looked from me to Tenki.

" Hello. " I smiled.

" You're that girl, the one with two powers. I can't believe I have the honor to be your waiter. " She said breathless.

" Please don't think of me any different from anyone else. " I asked, softly.

" O-of course, of course. May I have your name, then? " She asked.

I was silent for a second determining if I could trust her and finally I mentally groaned.

" Angel, please, call me Angel. " I said forcing a smile.

" Well Angel, Tenki, please follow me. " She said all business now.

She led us to the table and we sat down.

" So, what can I get you two to drink? " She said grabbing her little not pad out and her pen.

" What kind of alcohol do you guys sell? " Tenki asked.

" Well, we have several wines. We also have champagne, beer, tequila, martini, whiskey, vodka and my personal all time favorite the Sangria. " She said.

The moment Sangria came out of her mouth my mouth began to water.

" Do you sell Scotch Whiskey? " Tenki asked.

" Yes, we do. In fact that is one of the folks all time favorites around here. " She said smiling.

" I'll take that please. " Tenki said.

" What can I get you, Angel? " She said smiling.

" Do ya'll carry White Sangria? " I asked

" Yes, we have that and we now allow you to pick fruit combinations as a craft your own type deal. " She said beaming with pride.

" Sweet! I would like dragon fruit, Kiwi, pineapple, cherry and what do you recomend, Actually surprise me on the last fruit choice. " I said giving her a real smile.

" Wow, thanks I'll be right on it. Here are the menus I will take your order once the drinks are here. " She said smiling and walking away with a pep in her step.

" You just made her day. " He said smiling looking at his menu.

" She made my day so I can only return the favor. " I said shrugging looking at my menu.

I scanned it and once I scanned it all I had decided on the fried calamari with a side of Cheese and grapes.

She came back and I sipped the sangria and looked for that one fruit that I let the waiter pick and I was surprised to taste fig.

" Wow, I would have never thought to put fig in sangria. " I said sipping on it.

The taste was great with just the right amount of sweetness, citrus, and bitterness.

" Do you really like It? " The girl asked.

" Like it? I love it! " I said grinning at the waiter.

" Thanks, have you already picked from the menus? " She asked.

" Can I have the fried calamari with cheese and grapes? " I asked.

" Okay, and what about you, Tenki, the usual pork sliders? " she asked.

" Yes, please. " He replied and off she went again.

" So, why did you look so nervous when you asked me out? " I chuckled.

His eyes lit up with sparkles.

" I was afraid you would say ' No, now get lost! ' " He smiled.

" I wouldn't have. I am glad you did, though. I missed having someone this close. " I said.

" You mean you've had a boyfriend before? " He asked.

" Um, no. I just don't let people close, because every time I did, the person was either killed by a soldier or killed by a disease. " I said, thinking about the girl that I always played with.

" She was out past curfew playing with me in my house and she got home really late and she bumped into a soldier and she was publicly hanged in front of the entire town. I was forced to watch as she begged for mercy and looked at me for help but I tried to run to her and a soldier had to knock me on the back of the head with the butt of his gun to get me to stop fighting him. Her name was Niji Kara and she was only twelve when she was hanged. " I said my voice breaking.

I watched as my only friend was killed because I was selfish and wanted to play more. I was the reason she was hanged and I never got over it. Sometimes I still have nightmares about it, about how my selfishness got her killed. Her parents lost their only child because of me. Somehow they couldn't find it in themselves to blame me and I never understood why. I fought and fought but couldn't save my best friend. My only friend. I was weak. Helpless. Useless. Unable to fight for a person I cared about.

I shook away the thought as tears threatened to pool over.

" Here you go. " The waiter called, bringing the food over to our table.

I was thankful for her timing and the great smell of great food.

" I'm sorry that happened, I can see how much she meant to you. " He said reaching over and grabbing my hand. He gave my hand a little squeeze and smiled sadly at me before letting go and starting to eat.

" It was long ago, I try to not think about it much. " I shrugged.

" Well, I am glad I am able to get close to you. You make me smile and sometime you make me laugh at you. " He chuckled.

Despite the memory of Kara, Tenki made the sadness fade and I chuckled.

After we finished eating we walked in peaceful silence towards the house. We talked about our childhoods and as it turns out our childhoods weren't much different. We were right at the house's gates when Tenki grabbed my hand and spun me around to face him. I smiled up at him and he smiled down at me. Out of the blue his fingers found my face and lightly traced my cheekbones. His touch was so warm and soft against my face I enjoyed the feeling of his skin on mine.

Without another thought his face leaned into mine and his lips gentle brushed against mine. He kissed me gently, his hand still on my cheek. His lips were soft and tentative. His warmth filled every part of me and I felt myself melting into the warmth of him. All to soon he leaned away and smiled that smile I loved.

" I didn't think you could kiss. " He teased.

I punched his shoulder and he faked a yelp and we burst into laughter as we walked to door of the house.

We walked up the stairs, onto the second floor and it turns out his room was right across from mine.

He gave me a quick kiss before retreating into his room and I did the same.

Everyone was already in bed and I grabbed a quick shower before jumping into bed.

The pillows and blankets were warm enough that when I turned off the lamp on the bedside table I quickly fell into a deep sleep.
