Chapter 10: Finding the way

A medical career in Arbane was a rare profession and very few people have this skill. That was because it took a long time to study for six full years in a medical school starting at the age of 15. Then at least three more years of practicing medicine to qualify for the medical license exam.

There are five levels of medical certificates in Arbane: Ordinary Operational, Extraordinary, Professional, and Proficient, and finally, the highest level, that is, the expert level. There were fewer than ten people with a qualified medical certificate in Arbane. Professor Raquel Spencer was one of them.

Acquiring a medical certificate was very difficult at each level. Because they had to go through a lot of tests which was not easy, the higher level the more difficult seem like looking for a blunt-tipped needle and a double-pointed head in the Darknae Ocean.

And with this difficulty, a medical certificate was an important thing that cannot be assessed at all. Therefore, anyone who holds this medical license commits anything that violates the principles and rules of the Arbane Medical Confederation. That person will be investigated and punished according to the degree of the offense committed.

There were four levels of guild punishment in order from light to heavy: probation, down leveling, temporary license seizing, and revoking the medical license for life.

Therefore, whatever action a doctor would take, they would be extremely careful. A misdiagnosis that results in both physical and mental damage to a patient was considered a Class 3 or 4 serious offense.

So was Raquel's case that he was diagnosed with Lear Carbares two weeks ago and put a stamp on her health certificate stating that she was indeed insane. And when later they found out that she was not as lunatic as stated. There was a huge risk that Raquel would be called in for an investigation by the investigative committee of the Medical Association judge and possibly punished.

It was for this reason that Lucas was very worried about his professor. Lucas wants to help Lear, but he also didn't want his professor to be punished by the confederation too.

As soon as Lear heard Lucas' reasoning, she was stunned because she had no idea that it would have such a devastating effect.

"If it is indeed what Lucas said, then… it means whether Professor Raquel will stamp it or find someone else to stamp it instead. Professor Raquel will still be called by the confederation for questioning, right?"

To be sure, Lear asked Lucas again. As for Lucas, he didn't answer her but nodded slightly with a serious expression on his face. Because he didn't know what to do to be able to save both Lear and his professor.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Lucas, that I'm lacking thoughtful. This caused you and Raquel to suffer and risk this much."

"M- Miss Lear, you don't have to apologize to me. I'm willing to help you. And I think that the Professor thinks so too."

"Don't worry. I have decided to find a way to prevent Professor Raquel from getting in trouble myself. You can rest easy."

"So, what will Miss Lear do now?"

"This matter… I don't know now."

Lear was a bit embarrassed because, to be honest, she also didn't know what to do next. But even then, she wouldn't let anyone else get into trouble because of her. Besides, Raquel's judgment like that wasn't always his fault. Because according to the story, that person Lear Cabares was as insane as he judged. But the current Lear and the Lear two weeks ago are different people.

If she told the truth like that, would anyone believe her or not?!

"Miss Lear don't worry. I believe that the professor must have a way out. Besides, I will help you. Everything always has a solution. I just ask you to believe in me."

Although Lucas was very worried, he still insisted on helping her. Seeing this, Lear felt unbelievably overwhelmed. She had never imagined that he would risk so much to help her.

"Why does Dr. Lucas want to help me so much?"

With a multitude of feelings in his mind, Lear accidentally asked Lucas. This caused Lucas's expression to be stunned for a moment before slowly turning a deep red.

"It's because..."

"Please allow me to serve food. I'm sorry for being late."

It wasn't long before Lucas could say anything more. The café staff immediately came to serve the food they had ordered. It couldn't help that Lear's attention immediately shifted to food.

Lear's amethyst eyes shone as she saw the food in front of her. And it passed lunchtime for a while, Lear's hunger level was at a level that could not withstand the luscious food in front of her. Without thinking of maintaining any appearance in front of Lucas, she immediately dealt with the food.

As for Lucas himself, he breathed a sigh of relief. Before sitting and watching Lear savor the food with a happy expression on his face, he suddenly felt that his heart was beating abnormally, causing him to feel anxious for a moment.

'What happened? Or will I have a heart attack?'

But that worry was completely gone. When he saw Lear's happy expression in front of him,

'Probably not'

----------

After three hours Lear and Lucas return to wait for Professor Raquel at the Arbane Medical Confederation. Just this time, Professor Raquel didn't meet them in the office like the first time they met. Instead, they set up an appointment at the Confederation's central library on the other side of her visit this morning.

Lear surveyed the confederation's library. The library here felt more magical than anywhere else she had been. Maybe it was because of the human skeleton displayed in the middle of the hall plus the atmosphere with dim orange light. In addition, the lingering aroma of herbs made her feel a bit scared.

She began to move closer to Lucas, who was sitting next to her reading a book in focus. As she observed him up close, she found that his serious and determined demeanor had dramatically changed the atmosphere around him. It unconsciously made him more attractive. And for how long, she didn't know how much she enjoyed looking at him like this.

"Miss Lear, are you bored?"

Lucas suddenly closed the book and asked her with a gentle expression.

"Ah— why did Dr. Lucas ask me that?"

End of Lear's question Lucas looked to the side embarrassedly, before raising his hand to scratch his neck in embarrassment.

"Well— I saw you sitting looking at me for a long time. So, I thought you'd be bored."

Hearing this, Lear was startled before smiling back at him.

"Is it that obvious? I'm sorry for bothering you."

"Ah— not like that… I— I'm not annoyed, just…"

Lucas quickly turned to explain to Lear, frantically raising his hand. His face grew redder. Lear, seeing Lucas' expression, wanted to tease him a little more, so she slowly moved closer to him, faking her innocent eyes and innocently asking him.

"Just what?"

"is...."

It wasn't long before Lucas had responded. Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded from behind.

"Looks like I made you wait a little longer. I'm sorry that the seminar ended a little later than scheduled. Are you all bored?"

When Lear turned around, she saw Raquel walking in with an old man and woman she didn't know. But Lucas seems to know them very well.

"No, professor. I read the book killing time instead ...Good afternoon, long time no see Professor Perez, Professor Elika."

Lucas stood up and bowed to him which Lear didn't delay, she immediately stood up to greet Arbane's custom.

"Oh! Little Luke, long time no see you've grown up a lot."

After Lucas finished greeting the newcomer Lear saw that an old woman in a medical uniform like Raquel approached Lucas and greeted him affectionately. Before she could notice Lear standing nearby, her expression was strange. Along with saying a sentence that made Lear's expression a bit embarrassed.

"Oh— I didn't expect that you to have such a beautiful lover. Are you guys married yet?"

Lucas, hearing this, immediately refused with a flushed face.

"No, it's not- Miss Lear is my patient...not like you thought."

The old woman was Elika Denoire, one of the few physicians who received a high-level medical certificate. Feigning a shocked expression, she turned to Lear and spoke with slight laughter in her voice.

"I apologize for my misunderstanding, but…"

"Good afternoon. I am the only daughter of Leon Cabares, my name is Lear Cabares."

Lear formally greeted Elika once more. She glanced over at another old man who had arrived, indicating that she was not the only one who respected Elika but included him

"Hmm— Lear Cabares? So, you're the young lady Raquel had just checked in two weeks ago?"

Another new old man said. He was another doctor with the same medical license as Raquel and Elika. His name was Perez Rachesca, raising his chin, looking at Lear thoughtfully.

"Huh— so… but when you went to check her last time? Didn't you say that she was a lunatic? Or do I hear wrong? But what I see now is far from lunatic a lot."

Elika narrowed her eyes at Lear thoughtfully before turning to talk to Raquel with a more serious expression on her face.

"It wasn't that you had already stamped on her health certificate, Raquel."

End of Elika's sentence, the rest of them stood still, Lucas's expression discolored immediately. As for Lear and Raquel, their expressions were slightly tense. As for Perez, he had a calm expression on his face. Reading from the expressions on each other's faces, Elika understood why Raquel had asked her and Perez to meet with Lear.

"Sigh— I didn't expect you to make a mistake, Raquel. Because I know how serious you know the consequences of misdiagnosing a patient's condition."

Every word Elika said made the surroundings even more awkward and oppressive. Although it may sound like a censure, no one dares to argue, because it is true.

"I know— but at that time I swear that young lady had an insane state of mind, but when I met her today, I was surprised. Because in the situation of the young lady that day, it is difficult to heal in two weeks… So I ask for your help."

Raquel said, causing Lear to feel even more guilty in her heart. But even then, she couldn't tell them the truth that she was a different person from Lear who had been diagnosed by the doctor two weeks ago.

"Hmm— if what you said is true. It was strange…"

Perez said, staring at Lear with a look of uneasy look in his eyes. It made her feel uncomfortable as if she was being caught in the wrong.

"Yes— it's strange…. It takes at least six months depending on the severity of the impact. Unless..."

Elika crossed her arms and pondered before making an assumption based on her healing experience over thirty years as a doctor. Before stopping in front of Lear, she stared at Lear with sharp eyes and a distrustful smile.

"You — is it the real Lear Cabares?"

Elika's question stiffened Lear. The blood in her body was cold. Amethyst's purple eyes widened in shock while staring at Elika's eyes in panic.

'Don't tell me she knows!!'
