38th SS - The Traveler pt.1

It's currently June 2100, the demon apocalypse just ended. It took the humans 100 years to defeat the Demon God with everything they got, from machine guns to nuclear warheads.

In the end, due to the intense radiation released from the nukes, the Earth's atmosphere has been destroyed.

With the atmosphere gone, the Sun's UV rays were able to penetrate the Earth's ground and made the planet inhospitable for living beings. Plants died to intense earth poisoning, the animals who ate the plants also died from poison.

Humans on the other hand, didn't die from poison. Instead, they died from stage 5 skin cancer due to the long exposure of the UV rays. And if that didn't kill them, the deadly nuclear clouds that travel the planet would have killed them anyways.

By March 2100, Earth had become a dead planet filled with radioactive waste, poisoned water, and scorched ground.

Well, that's the end of the story, right? Nope, not even close.

Because I'm still alive and healthy!

Hi, my name's Ian Yang and I'm a 23 year old neet who has never left my bunker once. Since the start of the demon apocalypse, my family had been holed in their family bunker for an entire century.

My grandparents bought a century's worth of food and water, before they shut themselves off from the world. They predicted that the apocalypse would end 100 years later.

And they were half-right. The demon apocalypse did end a 100 years later, and so did the human race. In fact, I wished that I wasn't born to witness the end of humanity like this!

You couldn't imagine the look of shock on the person who was dying from water poisoning. He thought he was the last person on Earth.

But sad to say, he met me. I was wearing a plain white shirt, a pair of blue shorts, and some flip flops that day.

Oh boy, the dude's already pale face got even whiter when he saw me. Maybe he was happy to see me, because tears started streaming down his face till the moment he passed on.

I didn't get to hear any of his final words though. He definitely said something, but they were in a foreign language. So even if he had said something, I wouldn't be able to understand him.

Anyways, it has been a boring year since the last person known to man has passed away. I can't help but feel a bit guilty for not showing up earlier. Maybe we could have been good friends before he died.

It's all in the past now.

Besides, I've found a cool looking portal in my backyard. Isn't that neat?

Just then, the cracked ground around the portal was repairing itself. A minute later, grass and flowers bloomed around the portal.

'Incredible…This portal is a treasure trove of vitality! This is an incredible discovery! But wait, I'm the only human left on this planet. What am I going to do with this portal? Go through it? Sounds dangerous. Or should I leave it be? I can have my backyard refurbished…' The more I thought about it, the more skewed the ideas became.

But then it hit me. I, Ian Yang, was the last person on Earth. Since this portal showed up in my backyard, this might be Earth's last gift to its last human inhabitant.

'It's definitely telling me to live on as its last living being.' Thinking so, I imagined a globe presenting me with a blue portal using both of its arms.

I actually smiled at the thought of that.

3 days later…

With the blue portal in front of me, I took a deep breath to calm my beating heart. 'Goddamnit, I've been preparing for this trip for 3 days now yet my heart wouldn't stop beating. I feel really excited.'

I grabbed my gucci backpack I found from a rundown Gucci store, wore my worn out prada flip flops from when I was wandering through the deserted city of London, and looked around my surroundings for a bit.

I took a long hard look at my house that survived the apocalypse, before I walked through the blue portal with a smile on my face. 'I off!'

***

After stepping through the portal, I was hit with a sense of dizziness as my mind was being filled with thousands of voices. I didn't know where these voices originated from, but I could guess that I was traveling through space and time.

The voices in my head must be the people from the past. There were voices from people from all sorts of ages, backgrounds, and even time periods.

I wondered if there were any voices from my time period. Just around the time of the demon apocalypse would suffice.

Alas, I couldn't hear anyone from my time period.

As my vision was dark, I could only use my other senses to hear and feel my surroundings.

A portal to the unknown…Even if the portal didn't lead me anywhere, I would still be happy. At least I didn't die a boring death like getting skin cancer, or did I die from drinking poisoned water.

Speaking of which, how did I never get skin cancer nor did I die of radiation poisoning? Did I unconsciously adapt to the deathly environments Earth was left with after the demon apocalypse? Weird, I actually don't know what happened.

I—?!
