16 An apology note
When Zara woke up the next morning, her neck felt like it had been snapped back and forth by an angry gorilla. Her head hurt as well, pounding like a nursery school miscreant was beating the school drums mercilessly. She groaned, rubbing her forehead. She’d take some pain meds later.
Zara stretched, her back against the wall. Yesterday had turned out a bit too bizarre and she’d fallen asleep on the floor—not that she’d had any better sleeping place since she arrived. Today, however, her body ached too.
She glanced around the room but didn’t see Andrew anywhere in sight. Of course, he’d left early. She felt that he didn’t want to let her see him. Zara stood, grimacing as her leg almost gave out under her. She rubbed her neck where Andrew had choked her almost to death.
