46 Beyond redemption
“It can’t be true,” Bella said, her hand shaking. Zara was worried that it might slip and cut the child. But, it seemed like she had more control over her emotions that she’d thought. The knife never slipped and it didn’t cut the child. “He’s lying. I know Aaron and I know he couldn’t have done something like that. Wasn’t there someone else at that time?”
Vester shook his head. “I swear it on my late wife’s honour!” he said, panicked. “I didn’t want to do it, but Aaron was persuasive. Also, I needed the money he was offering.”
“Why did he want you to do it?” Zara asked, ignoring Bella’s outburst. She was just in denial. She wasn’t ready to believe that Aaron was capable of such despicable acts. But, it was clear. The signs were there. The man hated his half-brother with passion and it was highly possible that he’d orchestrated all of this. but, for what purpose?
