Unpredictable Ethan

55 Unpredictable Ethan

Ethan’s phone rang and he glanced at it. He wasn’t really in the mood to talk anyone at the moment. The bottle of wine he’d had earlier lay beside his chair, empty and cold. He’d drank it all, hoping it would take away of the loneliness he felt.

He sighed when he saw that the person calling was Aaron. What did the idiot want now? Wasn’t it enough that he’d lured Mara away to his nest? Was it not enough that he was about to become one of the most important men in the country?

Well, that was only going to happen if he stopped his obsession with the silly maid he fancied. Thankfully, the girl was dead now. It offered room for more opportunities. Ethan didn’t want an emotional wreck in on his plans. If Aaron wanted to be in, he’d have to bone up.

He answered the called. “I have to say,” he said, making sure his voice was casual enough to not sound scary, “I never thought you’d call me so out of the blue. Wasn’t that Gracie’s job?”
