57 Bella’s killer

Aaron frowned, facing Zara fully. His heart squeezed when she said the name. He hesitated. This woman was now his enemy—someone who would readily blackmail him for anything—and he knew better to let himself drift too much. He felt that it was clever of her to use Bella as an excuse to get his attention.

“What do you want this time?” Aaron asked, then hissed, shaking his head. “You know what? Don’t answer that. You know, it’s funny how things turn out. I took you from the gutters and now you know how to bite.”

“You need to listen to me,” Zara said. She had a sort of frantic look in her eyes—the way her eyes darted as she looked at him. It was so…unnatural. “I’m not your enemy here!”

“You’re not my enemy?” Aaron said, chuckling. “But, you can threaten me? You don’t even know a thing of what I’m capable of, Zara.”
