She must have gotten sick in the forest.
It was a wild, wretched place and those easily could fall prey to it if they didn’t know how to navigate it properly. I was foolish not to watch her closer. I should have noticed how pale she’d gotten. She could have touched the wrong bush or her body might not have been able to take the rapid weather change.
I knew one thing, I had to try and help her get this fever down before it consumed her whole. Besides, she’d only just became mine.
“Bring me a bucket of cold water and a towel.” I said to the soldier I passed without looking at hm.
I carried her to the room in the back of the cabin and kicked the door closed behind me before I placed her on the bed. I felt her cheeks, her head. My warm hand felt ice cold compared to her skin.
