Jonas bowed his head and said nothing, but Cecilia said, "I like him, you don't have to worry."
"Yes, my daughter loves them, what do you care, you'll regret it when the time comes!"
The old man smiled nonchalantly and said, "My daughter, why not?"
"Eat something first, never mind that, J, you're hungry." exhorted the old woman.
At least the old woman was okay and not so angry that the old man was still alive, Jonas stumbled to the table.
At the table, the old woman began to cook, and Jonas joined her father.
Grandfather told Jonas not to be polite to him. Jonas also looked embarrassed and said nothing. Like ancient beggars, invited to dinner by the rich, they dare not even touch chopsticks.
Cecilia saw the form, hurried to give Jonas food, Jonas said: "OK, I come."
Cecilia looked at Jonas and said, "You don't have to be so polite, we are all family now."
"Yeah, don't be so polite, help yourself."
Jonas quickly sat her down.
After sitting down, everyone had a ride to chat, the old man did not speak much, chatting for a while, the old lady sent a meal to Jonas.
"J, which college are you from?"
"XXThe university of." Jonas replied.
The old man thought for a moment and said, "Fine, but it's still a little worse than my daughter's school."
Jonas did not know how to answer, Cecilia quickly said: "Dad, you will stop talking about those useless things. You are angry with him, what can you get?"
The old man chuckled, "I'm telling the truth, J, don't mind."
Jonas smiled satirically and changed the subject, telling the old man that the house was good and that he planned to buy another one for Cecilia.
"It cost me a hundred thousand dollars the first time I bought it, but someone with that kind of money must be rich and powerful."
Jonas nodded, "Well, Uncle, you work for XX Corporation and seem to have a lot of money."
He said to Jonas, "OK, let me give you an example. My apartment cost 200,000 yuan. How much did you say 200,000 yuan was?"
Jonas thought for a moment and then added, "The house in the inner ring, or the second room in Central."
The old man nodded, "that should be enough, but I don't like that apartment."
Jonas was sweating profusely, and since he didn't like public housing, he looked down on his own shitty house even more.
Next, the old man didn't brag about anything, just played hard to get Jonas to not react.
After the meal, Jonas and Cecilia said a hasty goodbye, and the old man urged her to leave. "Then we'll go, you stay here a while longer, and we'll get some fruit."
Jonas immediately said, "No, I have business to attend to first!"
Cecilia went out the door and asked about Jonas.
Jonas thought for a moment and said, "Your parents are fine, but their background, I don't think I deserve them."
"Don't be so insecure," Cecilia reassured.
Jonas sighed, "I'm confident in my abilities, but I'm not in the best shape."
Cecilia put Jonas in his arms, "Jonas, if you put more effort, you can live a good life, can you fight for me?"
Jonas felt like he had already been through this once, and he would never do it again, and he held her close, "Cecilia, I would do anything for you."
Cecilia beamed, "That's more like it, let's go back to bed."
Jonas replied faintly, "You can drive as you please."
"It's okay, I'll pay," Cecilia said proudly.
Jonas was not forgiving: "What's the difference between yours and mine? You should save a little, when you get married, there will be plenty of money to spend."
Cecilia smiled, "Okay, we're on our way."
When he arrived at the company on Monday, Cayce told Jonas that Mr Chen had been doing his own thing all this time, seemingly to promote himself through his contacts.
Jonas looked at Cayce, "He can do what he wants, leave us alone."
Cayce looked at Jonas, "Jonas, how do you feel about coming for a weekend?"
Jonas sighed, "It's a long story."
Cayce quickly reassured, "It's okay, just tell me, I'm not babbling."
Jonas said to her, "There are a lot of people now, so follow me."
In the tea room, Jonas told Cayce everything that had happened the night before. Cayce frowned, then said to Jonas, "Jonas, Sister Cecilia is quite fond of you, but her family seems to have a problem with you."
Jonas was worried, "So am I."
Cayce looked at Jonas, "Aren't you good at picking up girls and serving your father-in-law well?"
Jonas sighed. "That's not true. I'm good at picking up girls, but when I see people's parents, I'm screwed. I'm broke. It's nonsense. It's like a non-existent stock that only shows up in the stock market. If they come to investigate, they'll know it's all a hoax. And I visit their parents to find out who I am. So I'm always on edge, afraid of being looked down on and disappointed."
"Then why did you have to do it?" asked Cayce, puzzled.
"He probably didn't think so, so he tried to see if he could be with Cecilia," Jonas told her. "In fact, women are like that, talking about their preferences, but in reality, family is their throat, their tool for overcharging."
Cayce countered, "Who knows, my parents wouldn't do that, and if I set eyes on anyone, they wouldn't care!"
Jonas looked incredulous, "You have bad taste, such a young man without a job."
Cayce immediately retorted, "You idiot!"
Jonas asked curiously, "If you are so affectionate, why don't you have a boyfriend so far?"
