Chapter 33: Whispers & Threats

Owen was pacing inside the tavern.

“Will you sit or something? No one should be this anxious so early in the morning,” came a moan from a corner booth.

William had his head resting on the table.

“Oh, give me a break, Will. You act as if you’re never up this early for work.”

“I’m not usually. I try to get my beauty sleep whereas you work to death and let me tell you, it shows.” William turned his head to face the wall and ignore Owen.

The hunters were supposed to be arriving soon for their first shift and Owen needed to make a case to Malaki. He wanted to prove he could be of use. That he wasn’t just another defenseless sheep.

Owen was also hoping he’d see Arion with the group today. He knew he had acted childish when leaving, but he was confused as well. She had seemed to pull away from him when he shared his truth with her. Though she said it did not matter, part of him felt it did.
