Chapter 37: Dreams

Oriana’s POV

“Why won’t you listen to me, child?” an eerie voice swam into my ears, in a language that I did not speak, but I could understand it as if it was threaded through my mind.

The sky bled, a bright red aura enveloping the sun, painting the desert in a crimson light. Bodies lay in the sand, buried, throughout the dunes. It went on and on for miles. Death crispened the air. The taste of it delighted the creature as she appeared from over the dunes.

The figure of a lioness, sleek, lithe and deadly, rose, gliding over the sand. There were no traces of pawprints as her body contorted, rising and twisting into her goddess form. Her skin was as smooth as honey, rich beyond comparison.

It was a scene that I had become quite familiar with, but despite that, it never failed to instill me with fear. My body shivered, cold in the roaring sun.

“Child?” another whisper, coating my spine in a timeless, inhuman voice.
