Chapter 50: The Beginning of Something New

Oriana’s POV

“You think my mama didn’t teach me anything?” I asked, folding an omelet into a perfect pale-yellow half-moon. Cooking with my mom yielded my favorite memories with her. It was one of the few times we actually spent quality time together. Then it hit me how much I really missed her.

Tanner chuckled, accepting my offering of breakfast food. “You didn’t have to make me anything.”

I shrugged, starting on my next omelet for Celeste who sat patiently, even though she drooled in anticipation. “I’m just returning the favor, Tanner.”

“Well, thank you. I appreciate it,” he replied, an expression of gratitude on his face. He wasn’t just saying that. And even if we had a bit of a rocky meeting, Tanner and I were becoming fast friends.
