"so basically, raiders came to this town took people but then they saw this moms daughter and they tried to kidnap her which makes no sense because they were already taking people and nobody did anything about it" Theli explained, "and then she hid this shield in this manor but you also think something came through this village and spread all this black Ink " she finished.
"Yes, that's the basic synopsis of it," Gyles said shrugging her shoulders she then noticed something "look there's the manor," Gyles continued pointing towards a building, That oddly looks like a church.
All the other wooden houses were pushed to the side making it a clear path to the church-like building.
They then began walking to the building.
"Oh man I smell blood at least I think is blood I can't tell what the hell blood smell like? man, the closer we get to the manor the more I'm probably going to smell this" Theli said unsure of herself.
"After what we saw it maybe is the blood, if it isn't blood it could be rotting Corpses," Gyles said nonchalantly, shrugging her shoulders.
As they got closer Theli started plugging her nose because the smell got worse they also saw more black ink when they got closer appearing. Theil and Gyles then began side-stepping the black ink it was then that chewed up bodies started coming up some with some had their heads bitten off, their crimson blood seeping into the dirt road the smell of ink and blood mixed in and the odd smell of something metallic and musky smothered the senses of the two girls.
They then began coughing waving their hands in front of her face trying to wave the smell away Gyles then walked up to the front door stepping over the body that was in the way. Gyles then noted that down in her mind; putting her hand on the handle to the door she twisted the handle and opened the door. A sudden gust of wind made Gyles's black cloak flutter in the wind.
"Where the hell did that come from" Gyles muttered perplexed by the wind, looking into the building she saw dead bodies most of them were eaten from the torso up leaving behind only their legs.
Gyles then began stepping inside "shit it's freezing," she said, quickly bringing her foot back outside.
"How it's warm out here isn't it" Theli questioned confusion on her face.
"You can stick your hand in there if you want but I'm telling you it is cold," Gyles said shrugging.
They then began bringing her hand to the door she then stuck it through the doorway " I don't know what you talking about but it's not freezing, only a little chilly, we'll to me anyways."
Gyles then came up then stuck her hand through "huh I'm it's not freezing anymore" Gyles said confusion in her voice she then turned to Theli the girl giving her a blank face "I'm telling you it was cold."
"Aha" was all Theli said.
Walking in front of Gyles, and stepping into the Church like Manor Theli then saw a lot of displays with weapons spears, swords, Shields, etc etc. The glass of the displays was cracked open and it looked like some of the weapons were taken, most of them were smeared with blood.
"You think the thing is in here" Gyles wondered looking around.
"I mean if the thing came from here wouldn't you think it would go outside to take care of the villagers so I don't think. It's in here." Theli theorized her hands in her pockets
" But that's the thing it's too empty I've watched enough movies to know this is suspicious, there trying to lure us into a false sense of security and then jump us a the last moment," Gyles said pounding her fist together with a grin on her face.
" What kind of movies do you be watching" Theli mumbled.
"The kind that is good"
Theli then turned around and looked at Gyles who was grinning at her she then turned back around and continued walking soon enough the two then saw stairs leading to what they assumed to be the basement
"I'm not going down there it's too suspicious, you can go down if you want," Gyles said immediately declining, shaking her head.
"Weren't you the one who said two heads is better than one" Theli said her hand rubbing over her chin Gyles just grumbled but then it turned into a smirk
"You're using my own words against me," Gyles said gasping put a hand on her heart feigning hurt "they grow up so fast" she then wiped away a fake tear.
Theli had already opened the door to the basement "yeah yeah you coming, or are you going to stand there all day"
"Geez you don't have to be so pushy"
But Theli was already walking down the stairs Gyles just mumbled under her breath following after her walking right behind her.
The wall was lined with torches a spiral staircase going down there were also stains on the wall looking reddish-brown the black ink was also starting to cover most of the wall down.
"Hey, do you feel that wind?" Theli asked Gyles turning toward her
"Yeah I feel it, what I'm questioning is how is the wind coming from the basement" Gyles replied.
After that, a silence rafted through the air as they kept silently walking down the spiral staircase
"I think I see something up ahead," Theli said pointing ahead.
"What do you see," Gyles said curiously trying to see what was in front of Theli.
"I see...darkness," Theli announced pausing for the dramatic effect she then turned around to Gyles giving her a flat look "come on that was funny".
"You must have been on the internet for too long, your humor seems like it was stolen from a YouTube comment section," Gyles told Theli she then began walking around her and going down into the darkness "I wish we could see in his darkness though" Gyles then stopped at the last step and looked around.
"I can see in the dark just fine" Theli replied.
Gyles then looked back up at her tilting her head like she was thinking "now that I think about you might be based on a lion, fun fact did you know lions have great night vision especially since their eyes also have a membrane."
"Membrane is a sheet of tissue or layer of cells acting as a boundary, right," Theli said rubbing her chin in thought unsure of herself.
"Yep, you got that about right," Gyles said"for that, you get a star" putting on a baby voice a the end.
As Theli was about to respond.
WOOOOOOOOOO
A loud gargled wail interrupted their conversation Theli then covered her ears pushing trying to close them as much as possible.
"What the hell was that" Gyles wondered looking back up at the stairs she was secretly wondering if it was going to come down the stairs.
Theli groaned a response "I don't know, but my ears are buzzing" still holding her furry ears down.
'buzzing'? Gyles thought in confusion she then shook her head, 'remain focused on the task at hand Gyles'
"Wait a minute, we were so focused on conversation that I forgot to ask did you see anything in the basement" Gyles then turn back to Theli what she expected was the total darkness of the basement instead she could see just fine she then realized that there was nothing down there except vacant space Gyles then began feeling up the walls.
"Uh, what are you doing, and don't we still have to worry about the thing that made the roar" Theli said questioning what Gyles was doing.
"I'm feeling the walls for a hidden switch to open a secret door or passageway" Gyles then began pressing the side of her face against the wall trying to hear anything beyond the stone wall " either way I well finally prove that watching all those spies movies were worth it".
"Look I'm telling you right down don't get dissatisfied when-" Theli then got interrupted when she heard a clicking sound fill the room and Theli saw it a stone wall had flipped open to reveal a secret passage "h-h- how do you even- this is not-oh my god" Theli was just stumbling over her words at a loss of words that somebody would put that there.
"Hey are you just going to stand there, you coming or you just gonna stay here," Gyles said smirking a bit smug, that there was a hidden passageway.
"I just can't b-believe that there was a hidden passageway there" Theli was still stumbling over her words. "It sounds like something straight out of a mystery movie" she finished.
Coming up next two the doors Theli saw that it was a library, books lined the walls there was even a sign a the top saying magic section, and in the center was a beautiful shield it had a simple design a nice silver color a dragon was in the middle roaring to the sky it was practically glowing, a nice silvery color.
"So this is the shield she was talking about" Gyles wondered walking toward " hey, do you hear that".
The shield then began shaking it now glowing a violent silver enough that Gyles and Theli had to cover their eyes it then flew toward Gyles attaching to her arm she then began screaming in pain as the shield burned into her arm falling back onto the ground she then began convulsing her jaw twitching violently her legs sometimes jerking.
Theli then quickly ran 'is she having a seizure, wait now not the time ok ok, on the internet they said to put people who are having a seizure on their side' Theli then quickly put Gyles on her side she then put her hands under her head her screaming had stopped some time ago now she was just convulsing her body twitching now and then.
Gyles then shot up panting her breath coming out uneven tears ran down her cheek Theli started rubbing her back "hey are you alright,?" Theli asked.
Gyles gulped before speaking "yeah, i-i at least think I'm okay" she then shakingly got to her feet Theli then took Gyles's arm and put it around her shoulder.
"I think it's time to go upstairs," Theli said walking.
"Wait before we go can you go over to the magic section," Gyles asked pointing towards the magic section "just get any books you can find"
"You sure you can walk on your own?" Theli asked concerned.
"don't worry I'll be fine... Trust me" Gyles replied smiling at Theli.
Theli sighed she took Gyles's arm off her shoulder and seeing that could stand she then walked off to the magic section she then saw books that Gyles was right there was a magic section and they were cataloged in alphabetical order.
Darkness, Earth, Energy, fire, light, spirit, thunder, water, and wind.
There were ten books in the category beginner through expert 'i think I should take a beginner book for every element' so that's what Theli did she took a beginner energy, fire, light, wind, etc etc.
She now had nine books in her hands 'i hope Gyles has something to carry this in' she then walked back to Gyles.
"Hey, you do have something do carry this in right?" Theli asked, "I don't want to have to carry this especially with that thing outside".
Gyles pulled back her black to reveal a Side pouch "don't worry I got it" she then took the books away from me and stuffed them in the pouch "see nothing to worry about".
Theli looked unsure " I still feel like they're going to fall out," she said walking out of the library she then started to up the spiral staircase Gyles followed close behind.
"Don't worry it'll be just fine" Gyles said "capiche."
"Yeah yeah, I understand" they then continue to walk up the stairs and comfortable silence Gyles began humming.
Soon enough they made it to the top, Theli then began pushing open the basement door holding it open for Gyles to walk past walking past the weapon rack stopping in front of the front door.
"I'm still kinda nervous, I mean where did that roar even come from" Theli wondered idly messing with her wild hair.
"Doesn't matter, when we encounter the thing that made the roar that's when it matters" Gyles replied, as she continued "so that's a problem for our future selves, besides I'm more concerned with this shield on my arm"
The back of her wrist was seared a dark black the shield had burned itself into her arm her clothing had burned, forming a circle around the burnt skin.
You should be mortal" a deep croaky voice penetrated the air.
"I mean you peasants, have no class," a second voice said this one sounding more feminine yet it also found it tight, like it was irritated.
"The shield talks," Theli asked surprised.
"Of course powerful magic items like us have spirits inside of them or spiritual energy, that can manifest as spirits are stay as spiritual energy" the croaky voice explained.
The feminine voice then added, "but it all depends on how powerful that magic item is some spiritual energy isn't powerful enough or they just don't have enough energy for it." She then continued "some spiritual energies don't even like becoming spirits. "
"nice expos" Woah so you, powerful Spirits then," Theli said interrupting Gyles.
"This precisely why we attached to Gyles" the feminine voice continued getting looks of confusion in return "not only is Gyles a thorgon, a race capable of living for thousands of years but I also sense an honorable spirit within her."
"Thorgon?" Gyles asked in confusion.
" Yes, a race of adaptable people their body can adapt to almost any situation like if it was too cold they can make their body equally hot to combat the cold." The feminine voice explained.
'so that's why I didn't feel the cold the second time' Gyles thought.
"Can we stop stalling and get on with it?" the croaky voice announced irritation in its voice.
"Fine" Theli simply said
She then opened the door and walked out she then immediately tripped because there was a body in front of the door.
Gyles then snapped out of her sputter and walked out walking around the body.
"You could have at least helped me up" Theli then got up intending to wipe the dirt off of her clothes instead she just touched the blood on the front of her shirt "ew now I got blood on me it's even on my knees."
Gyles Snickered her hand covering her mouth.
"Hey you can't laugh unless we're both like this then I can laugh at you and then you can laugh at me then we both can be laughing" Theli rationalized.
But Gyles still walked away Snickering to herself Theli sighed walking right beside her still grumbling about the blood.
