Chapter 7: The Fighting Fox

As I carefully listen, most of the noises were coming from North and east. While the other directions has only few noises. Usually, most cops in my position would head down back to southwest where they first found the footprints and then dash back southward, go back to the police cruiser and wait there until the back up arrive. But, because I'm a moron and I want to know where the hell these people came from, I ran towards Northeast instead.

After few minutes, I've encountered another group of crazy people, spreading wide and thin, on my way towards Northeast. I only shoot those who were in front of me and pray to God that these bastards that are chasing after me are too weak and fat to run or get trip, falls, and dies.

After awhile of running and shooting, I somehow manage to bypass the horde of crazy people and didn't get bitten or even getting pinned down by one of them. But I'm still not that far away from them.

As I continue my pace, I noticed that there's a cabin in the distance. I quickly went inside and locked the door. I look around and the first thing I see is a huge sofa so I pushed the sofa towards the door to reinforce it. I sat down and lean to a wall, realizing how tired I was from running for only god knows how long.

"I bet that those guys have already arrived in the area but I know they won't make it in time, especially that the horde of cannibals are closing in here in the cabin." I said as I check my wound in my arm.

The bite wound got swollen and it looks like it got infections. The area around the wound has turn pale and it's really painful, even with a slight touch of my hand.

"I'm surprised that I'm able to shoot my gun with this infected wound in my arm. Kinda reminds me of bites you get in zombie movies and videogames." I said as I giggle a bit, remembering the good old days when me and Annie were always playing Neighborhood Evil and Silent Trees together in Game Station 2 back in highschool.

As I remember all of my old memories, I suddenly recalled a memory of when I gave my little sister, a matching pendant as a gift for her 18th birthday. I pull out my Yang Silver Pendant, hidden inside of my shirt.

"You were right, I should've listened to her. I'm sorry that your brother is too dumb and stupid." I said as I giggle and coughing at the same time.

Then, I heard loud banging noise coming from the door. I put my pendant back inside my shirt and check my bullets. I only have 8 rounds and 2 more magazines left.

"Hehe... I could probably pull this off. As long as every bullet doesn't miss." I said as I giggle, ready to take them down.

I noticed that my legs were too weak to stand up, probably because of the fatigue from running non-stop for a really long time. So I just stay put and ready myself.

"It's gonna be a one in a billion luck if I would manage to defend myself until the back up arrives." I said as I ready my pistol.

"If I'm not lucky, might as well go out with a bang." I said as the door broke down and the cannibals are slowly crawling in.

I fired my gun, Killing those crazy people one after another. Some managed to get inside but I shoot them down before they could stand up or crawl towards me.

As the bodies piling up, the door is no longer accessible because of how many dead bodies piling up there. So, those bastards decided to crash their way in through the window.

The window is quite small so they have to duck and put their one leg in before they could fully enter the cabin. That makes them an easier target.

Shot after shot, kill after kill, this goes on for a really long time before finally, I ran out of bullets.

As I look around, all I can see is dead bodies everywhere. But, I can still hear the sounds of footsteps, outside the cabin.

"I guess my luck has finally runout." I said as I giggle and coughing at the same time.

By that time, I feel so weak that I could no longer able stand up. My vision are starting to get blurry and I'm coughing up blood.

I'm starting to look back on all of my memories and regretting some of the things that I wish that I did it in the past.

If only I'm more obedient to the commands of my superiors, I would've become a member of S.C.R.A.P.S.

If only I didn't eat the taco on the fridge of my childhood friend, I wouldn't be hospitalized in a different city for 1 week.

If only I've listened to her, I wouldn't get bitten by that crazy old man and I won't have to defend myself against 50 or more people with a pistol and a half-paralyzed body.

I might have a lot of regrets in the past and a lot of wrong decisions that I've made but probably the biggest of all is... I didn't get to see her sweet, cheerful smile after we graduated from the academy. I wish I knew what I did or what causes her to no longer able to smile and be cheerful. If only I knew, I probably would do something about it.

Oh shit...

My vision is getting darker...

I'm...starting to...lose my...consciousness...

Ahh...

I wish I can hear her voice

One...last...time...

"An...nie..."

...
