Die in peace

The group wasted no time on Priscal's group first as they all attacked the zombie in military uniform, it appears that they had been searching for the zombie before it encountered Priscal's group.

They finally had the chance to catch their breath after the zombie had finally been killed by the combined effort of the thirty plus men. This showed Priscal and the others just how much danger they were in and how it would have been impossible for just the six of them to kill the zombie since it had taken a lot of effort even from a group of thirty plus men who were even more well equiped than they were.

"Now, how about you start by who you people are and where the hell you popped out from!"

Someone stepped forward and questioned Priscal's group, not giving them the chance to take cover from the rain first.

It appeared that he was the leader of this large group since no one opposed him taking the lead or they just did not mind who stepped out.

It did not take Priscal even a minute to explain to them that she was the leader of this small group of six and that there were two other groups who had spread out to clear other buildings as well and the fact that they had cleared an entire area to make as their save zone and their plan to clear their way towards the military base close by and get themselves armed with better weapons.

Priscal could not ignore the weird gaze that the man and the members of his group were throwing at them, the six of them shifted uncomfortably under the rain and stares of the thirty plus men but before they could ask why they were staring at them like that, the man who had stepped forward to question them suddenly threw his head back and burst into laughter.

His was facing the sky as he laughed with his mouth wide open, not minding the rain drops falling on his face while some entered his mouth.

Priscal and her cohort felt their skins crawl upon hearing the sudden burst of laughter from the man. His laugh held no amusement or mockery for their delusional conquest rather, it was a laugh fueled by fear. Fear for what Priscal and the others had probably not experienced before. But more than that, they could feel the madness from his laugh, a madness that could drive someone to do something completely out reasoning.

The man stopped his laugh after a few seconds and landed his gaze on the group of six opposite them.

"First of all, you are telling me that fourteen of you came with the plan of clearing this area before making your way to the military base? That's very admirable that you people have the courage to attempt such a dreadful plan even with how small your group is but…" the man paused and studied the face of everyone on Priscal's group, herself included before continuing.

" Are you people crazy or just stupid? Wait, don't tell me that you lots have no information about this area and just blindly came to clear it? My God!! You guys even dared to split up? Come let's hurry and go find the other members of your group first and that is presuming that they were not already dead yet" the man decided to pause the criticism and scolding that he had in his heart for now and voiced out, burning a sense of urgency into the hearts of Priscal and the others as they quickly turned around and led the large group of men towards the area that they believed they would find the others.

Just as the man had said, they very little information about this area, their Intel was limited to knowing that there were a lot of zombies in this area and that it was closer to the military base which was their primary target. So they could not quite tell why the man seemed terrified that they had split their small group of fourteen into three smaller teams but they could already guess upon remembering their encounter with the zombie in tattered military uniform.

Were there perhaps more of those?

The group shivered at this thought as a cold feeling spread into their hearts and they began to fear for the safety of Lia and the others, they hurried their steps as they rushed to where the others might be; they did not dare to imagine what would become of the group if they stumbled upon two or more of those similar zombies.

...…..

Presently…

"Lia!!" A loud voice suddenly sounded from the other side of the street, the voice was a bit far away despite how loud it was.

Lia did not need to see who the person was as she recognized the voice instantly.

"Priscal? What's she doing here?!" Lia wondered out loud while trying to push the zombie off of her.

But was finding it difficult to do so at the moment because she was not holding her sword in a way that allowed her to push with enough strength, she could also tell that other zombies were already approaching her location. As for the others, she did not know. Maybe they fled successfully since the zombies would most likely forget about fleeing targets to devour a trapped one, she was the one who gave them the orders to run without slowing down in the first place but looks like she could not carry out the command herself.

"Damnit! Even if I have to die here, at least not like this!" Lia voiced out with unwillingness. Her eyes were already getting cloudy but was unnoticeable because of the heavy rain, she might have accepted her fate but who was ever ready to die? Claiming to have accepted death was only a huge lie people used to deceive themselves because even if they are not aware of it, they would always hope for a chance, even when the possibility of it is slim and appeared nonexistent; hoping for a miracle was always one of humans action that most tend to deny.

"Lia!"

She heard Priscal's voice again and this time more audible despite the heavy downpour which made her believe that Priscal was close to her.

'What is this dumb woman doing? Didn't she see the others escaping? She will only meet a painful death by coming here's Lia thought inwardly as her eyes glared at the stumbling figures of zombies closing in on them(herself and the zombie on top of her)

Not still giving up despite how perilous her situation was, Lia still took her time to glance in the direction that she was hearing Priscal's voice from and her eyes widened the next moment causing her to almost lose grip of her sword.

Because of the heavy rain, Lia could only make out the silhouettes that were approaching from Priscal's direction and it appeared that they were approaching her position at a fast speed.

Lia's mind was instantly drowned in terror and her hope for survival received a critical hit from the sight of the blurry figures rushing over under the rain, they were more than twenty, no, even more than thirty if she guessed correctly and it was apparent that Priscal was running in front of this large group.

Her first thought was that Priscal had also encountered a large group of zombies just like them and they were currently fleeing, only to bump into their own group who were also trying to escape and the two groups were now trapped in between two large groups of zombies.

'How wonderful, now we are all going to die together' Lia lamented inwardly, already on the verge of tears.

But it turned out that her worries were uncalled for after Priscal got close enough and she realized that those thirty plus silhouettes were actually Priscal's group and a bunch of unfamiliar people but the fact that they were human and were currently helping her own group members to kill the remaining zombies filled her with so much relief that she believed that she could now die in peace.

'Die in peace my ass!! This is the miracle I hoped for!' Lia exclaimed excitedly in her heart at the sight of salvation. The zombies that were approaching her initially were now rushing towards the larger group of humans who had suddenly appeared, leaving Lia alone to battle with the one on top of her.

Still, although her courage had been hiked up and her fighting spirit augmented once again, dealing with this zombie was not something she could do swiftly because of her position but she was not bothered in the slightest since she could see the other zombies getting completely crushed.

....

Priscal and the others hurriedly rushed over the moment they spotted Lia's group fighting with a group of zombies that outnumbered them. She called out Lia's name as they got closer but got no response. They finally got close enough to properly see the group's situation, they were shocked to see the numbers of zombie corpses scattered around the place and the huge pit in the middle of the street but they did not have the time to be dazed at the moment because the people still needed help.
