Fablo's past

After talking a bit about Edward, Fablo began to talk about himself and how he became like this.

Similar to Edward, he had also got bitten but his situation was more similar to Luca's case because he had been surrounded by a bunch of coworkers who were also security guards like him. He had tried to resist them and fought relentlessly, even using his teeth when his limbs turned weak but he was unable to do anything in the end and his vision slowly fell into darkness.

….

Fablo woke up after an unknown amount of time had passed only to see the ruins that were left of the place that he once knew, the whole place was damaged beyond recognition.

Shattered windows, vehicles that had crashed into buildings, smoke rising into the air from different places, and the ground littered with body parts and painted with blood but not a single person was in sight; corpses with only half of their bodies remaining were not counted.

Fablo had stared around him for a good couple of minutes, his brain unable to process what had happened. The scene in front of him was like those from war movies or Beast Rampage, it was just so unbelievable!

The next thought that hit him was how he was still alive as he clearly remembered getting ripped apart by his co-workers who had suddenly become something that he did not know. Their eyes were lifeless and they did not react to anything that he said.

Bothered by so many questions for a few days, Fablo had come to a conclusion after roaming the place those few days that the world was no longer the world that he once knew. Zombies, who used to be people, were infecting other people at a terrifying speed and only God knew just how many infected people were left out there.

Coming to terms with the new change, Fablo braved the danger and began to hunt down these zombies to the best of his abilities. He had always been fearless which enabled him to face these abominations even when others fled at the sight of them, just like in those movies and novels Fablo would sometimes entertain himself with when he wasn't working, he slowly began to clear an area that he could turn into a shelter.

He would avoid fighting when the number of zombies was much and mostly only ambushed those that were wandering alone. He had also discovered some mind-blowing changes in his body after waking up such as the night vision that allowed him to see at night like it was day. The other abilities were only discovered after a few weeks.

But Fablo still had to leave that area because he realized that the zombies in that area were evolving too quickly and he could no longer easily kill them even in an ambush.

Months passed and Fablo had saved a good number of people who joined him in his quest to create a safe shelter for others and after three years, they had only managed to make this much progress.

…..

Edward stared at the husky man in silence after hearing his story, he suddenly felt stupid for acting so cowardly all these years. Compared to Fablo who had been alone for so long and had even suffered a traumatizing experience on the very first day of the outbreak, he had been alone and always had people to accompany him.

'Maybe it's just my personality or him getting his ability sooner added to his confidence?' Edward thought to himself but had no answers for his questions but one thing was certain now, he was no longer alone like he had thought. He now has someone who is in the same boat as him!

"We have spent too much time here, we have to go find the others quickly. There's no guarantee that they won't encounter a similar situation like ours, it would be a disaster!" Fablo said as he rose to his feet.

Edward agreed silently by giving a nod and stood up as well. They were only able to survive this battle most likely because the cat had not evolved beyond their capabilities and because of their special traits as half zombies, had the others or anyone else met the same fate as them, then a single scratch from that zombie cat and they would be done for!

Without wasting any more time, the two of them climbed down to the bottom floor before rushing into the rain and were about to go in search of the others when they suddenly saw a large number of silhouettes moving under the rain as well. Unlike the others, the eyesight of both Fablo and Edward was better than before, so they were able to tell at a glance that those figures were not zombies but people.

"Could that be them?" Edward could not help but ask in an unsure tone as the rain bathed them fiercely. Even Fablo was not sure if he should answer that question because the number of people was more than their entire group that had come for this cleanup, their numbers would still not match even if those who were left at the building came as well.

"Let's go check, we should be able to find the others quickly with their help, that's if they are other people" Fablo suggested and Edward nodded.

"Fablo?!"

A familiar voice suddenly called out Fablo's name as the two of them raced towards the group.

"Priscal!"

Fablo called back in response as he recognized the owner of the voice. One could sense the relief in his voice when he called out the name of the woman who had led a group of people to clear some other place.

"It's Fablo! We found him!"

"They are two, Edward is with him as well!"

"Are they alright?"

The group made a turn and approached the two after recognizing them.

They were finally able to see each other clearly after getting close enough and Fablo was finally able to see the strangers who had bloated the number of the group but he did not bother with them immediately, his priority was his people.

"Are you people all right? Is everyone here?" Fablo asked as he scanned the faces of everyone, he breathed out a sigh of relief after seeing that everyone was present and no one was missing.

'Seems like they did not encounter anything abnormal, that's good to know' Fablo thought to himself before looking towards the strange men standing behind the group.

Priscal saw that Fablo was staring at the men behind them.

"Why don't we take cover from the rain first? We will slowly explain everything" she suggested and the others agreed.

Fablo and Edward followed behind them as they went to take shelter in the closet building which happened to be the six-story building that Lia and her group had escaped from. Following Lia's advice, the group only rested on the empty first floor.
