Chapter Seventeen

The three men sat down to talk, Anna wheeled away giving them a bit of room as she went to the kitchen. Her mind and sense were still on the conversation but she pretended she didn't care. She wanted to know more about this mysterious brother Mu.

"Brother finally crossed the line that was separating him from his father's illegal activities" Dylan spoke with a solemn expression which also mirrored the expressions of the twins as well once they heard his words.

"He has been moving constantly for the last year, his father has been watching him and sending him death threats so that is why he didn't contact us this past year, he was trying to protect all of us"

"What exactly did he do to spite his father so much that he stopped being silent?" Li Chen asks his brows knitted together. Everyone knew that brother Mu's father was into illegal activities but they never said a word, brother Mu was silent and so was the entire Duan family because they knew better than to start a war with the king of the underworld.

"He has gathered a lot of evidence against his father, evidence that is strong enough to keep him in jail no matter how powerful he is. Mu refuses to reveal it to anyone so now his father wants to scare it out of him" Dylan sighs, he massages his pimples trying to ease the tension he was feeling.

"Sholana and Ella almost got hurt, I had to bring them here…they will be safe in the Duan Base with skilled fighters like yourselves" He says to the twins, they nod finally understanding why he brought the mother and daughter to the Base.

"I will have to go back, I have to help brother Mu"

"Why?" Anna couldn't help but ask, the alarm in her voice was clearly heard, she was afraid of him going back to where ever he had been. Just a day that he spent there he already came back with bruises. She was too worried about him to realize that she just interrupted their conversation.

Dylan sighs, he noticed the look of worry the girl had and it gave him a warm feeling deep in his chest. Someone worried for him…she had only known him a week he felt like she was his close friend of many years.

"I have to assist brother Mu" Dylan replied as he walked to Anna, squatted down and stared into her eyes. "The place he is…I can't leave him there alone. I have to go bring him back so that he can be reunited with his family"

"But its dangerous…" Anna whispers, staring into his eyes had made her lose the argument before it even began.

"It is what I do, that is why I'm a soldier Anna" he patted her shoulders and gave her a small smile. "I will be back soon"

Dylan had treated his injuries properly, put a few things into a small bag pack and left not long after. Anna watched him leave and couldn't help but remember the day her mother had left the house for the last time. She told her she would be back soon as well….

"Anna, don't worry. Dylan can handle himself" Li Chen comforted, of course even he himself was worried but he just had to trust that idiot!

"I have to meet Jason early today, I'll be leaving now" Anna said in a low voice, she didn't want to pretend that she believed his words. Anna wasn't Li Chen. She didn't believe that Dylan would just go there and come back easily, she couldn't really calm down but, there was nothing she could do at the moment.

Li Chen nodded, he stares into her eyes trying to figure out what the girl was thinking.

She was so worried about Dylan, if something similar happened to him, would she worry like this?

This question went through his head as he stared at the departing back of the girl.

He let out a sigh, it seemed he had fallen in love, something he promised to never do in his life.

'This won't end well' He thought to himself, if she really didn't like him back...he will be really hurt.

...

"Hey Anna. Are you ready?" Anna looked at Jason whose expression was exceptionally bright today

"You must be in a good mood today" She said smiling or.....trying to smile.

"Yes, indeed I am" Jason smiled brightly. "Let's begin, shall we?"

Anna nodded and let Jason take a look at her legs.

It took a while for Jason to finish the therapy but by the time he was done, Anna was sweating profusely and panting.

"Can we stop here?.....I'm not sure I can continue" Anna pleaded, she was so determined to do this before but now she really wanted to get on a bed and close her eyes.

She had thought she wouldn't feel anything in her legs once he started raising them and putting them back down.

After a few seconds, she felt it! at first she was happy but now....."Please Jason"

She pleaded again.

Jason smiled evilly "Twenty more, don't worry. We'll be finished before you know it"

Anna wanted to cry...so bad, why was he being so cruel.

Ignoring the pain in her legs she glared at the man angrily "I thought you were in a good mood?" Anna couldn't help but ask, she felt like the guy was venting

"Yep....I am"

"Ahhh! " Anna groaned, she was pretty sure at this rate her legs would never walk again, when they started he something like 'Taking the first step to walk again'

she was so confident but now.....

"And...one hundred and twenty..." Jason smiled satisfied "Phew...that was tiring" He said to her, Anna immediately glared at him.

Did he just say he was tired?!

"So tomorrow, we are going to be doing a hundred and fif...."

"Are you about to say fifty?" Anna gave Jason a deathly glare, he should just finish his words and then he would see what she's made of.....

"No I said a hundred and forty" Jason immediately corrected, that look made him feel a bit scared.

Anna smirked at him, at least she just saved herself from excess torture tomorrow.

"Since we're done, I'm going to leave now" Anna said before turning around, not even waiting for a reply.

"That girl is just like Dylan" Jason said to himself, Dylan was just as lazy as her when he was first brought to base. They were once best of friends at least till that woman came along.... he wondered, if Dylan ever got over what she did.

...

"Ah....." resting her head on the pillow, Anna had never felt so relieved before in her life. Her legs felt so sore, like she just ran a marathon.

"Why was he so cruel..." Anna complained, she should have just followed Chesa's advice and mention his wife.

Looking around she realized, she was the only person in the room 'They must all be out training'

Anna sighed for the nth time, it was her second day here and she was sure things would be much easier if Dylan was here with her. She was worried about him 'What is he doing now?'

She was beginning to hate the fact that she was this weak, she felt her eyes sting as she  thought of her late mother. She was always bullied by Clara along with her and as a daughter, she couldn't stand up for her mother, she always sat there quietly not able to say a word.

When her mother was being pushed to the ground and being hit, she was stuck on this wheel chair and couldn't do anything.

She didn't want to be like this for ever, she didn't want to watch the people she cared about get hurt while she just sits down and watches.

Her eyes suddenly glowed with determination, she made a promise to herself right there and then, she will walk again!, she will get stronger!, she will protect the people she cares about!

Anna blinked away the tears threatening to fall from her eyes and took a deep breath. She had made up her mind already.

Anna closed her eyes and tried to get some rest, after all of that exercise today, she was both mentally and physically exhausted. Jason wasn't kidding when he said the journey was going to be hard. It was just the first day and it already got her thinking about her whole life.

She soon fell asleep, exhausted but, it didn't take that long before she was woken up by really hurtful remarks. She had only spent 2days here but she recognized the owner of that voice immediately, it was no other than Efya.

"Why would Dylan even allow a lazy girl like you in the Duan base?" not hiding the disdain in her words she continued "I still don't think Dylan would do something as stupid as bringing a girl like you here. You definitely did something!" Efya creased her brows like she was thinking. Anna looked at her with a bored expression, she was just waiting for her to leave just so that she could continue her sleep.

Efya's eyes suddenly lit up as she thought of something "I knew it! You're a spy aren't you?"

"Excuse me?" Anna couldn't take it anymore 'Me? a spy?. You're playing with fire young woman'

"Don't say things that would get you in trouble later on" Anna warned but only got a sneer from Efya

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I mean, you might be the spy and you're are trying to blame me to save yourself" Anna said as she struggled to sit up and stared at the girl.

"You!...." Efya got angry, of course she wasn't the spy but with the way Anna put it, everyone might begin to suspect her.

Anna stared at the girl's angry expression and didn't say a word, she had definitely shut her up.

"Humph!" Efya stomped her feet as she walked out of the room, why did the girl have such a vile tongue. She wanted to make the girl boil in anger but now it seemed like her plan backfired.
