A look of shock glazed over Dion's and Connor's faces, but they were quick to recover, ignoring Nicholas as if he were a common servant.
Nicholas knew that it was unbecoming for him to act this way, bowing to another mage that was not the king, but their survival was more important than any protocol or pride.
"Who is this?" The soldier asked as Nicholas moved to the side, making sure that the soldiers wouldn't see him fully.
"An indentured servant." Ysmira simply said as she waved her hand, sending Nicholas scurrying to the kitchen to join Jorin where he would be hidden from the soldiers.
"As you can see, it's just me and my family, traveling to visit relatives." Michal told the man in a stern tone as if urging him to leave.
Nicholas had to hand it to the merchant, he was quite a good actor, he made a mental note to ask Michal if that was his true dream. He would shower those that helped him now with many blessings in the future.
