Fire-man

"We must eliminate the eavesdropper." If Hayden were anyone else, these words would be enough to drain all the blood away from his face. But he was a trained hunter, who even hunted for fun not just serving the community ( he barely did that. He preferred not to interact with them as much as possible). He wouldn't panic in a situation like that.

He pulled out the gun from his back and positioned it so that he could access it swiftly and kill him. However, the moment he got up he found himself dragged to the air and his limbs pulling away from his body. With much difficulty he had managed to reach his gun and thankfully before that fire-man could take it away from him, Hayden had managed to hit the fire-man right in the middle of his two eyes.

Anyone would be dead by that… except this wasn't anyone. The bullet injury healed on its own leaving behind a malicious grin. "Killing me was never that easy." he smirked. While Hayden had no trouble believing that guy, he could feel a sense of familiarity in those words. Hayden couldn't believe it, he was two for two on this one. Two failures back to back… was he losing his edge this badly?

Before Hayden could be tortured further, all the fire's that were surrounding the main fire from where this fire-man emerged, were put out in a matter of few seconds causing that man to gasp and Hayden to be freed from the magical grip. Wait, the fire was his power source? Hayden wondered momentarily. Mainly because the next moment he spotted another familiar face, that became his matter of concern for the next few minutes.

That fire-man turned to look at the new figure, "Nathaniel… long time no see. As usual, you are disrupting my plans." in a deep grave voice, he declared.

"And, as always, your plans get in the way of my business." Nathaniel shrugged. "This idiot might not know it, but you know how familiar I am with dark arts." Nathaniel snickered. While saying the word 'idiot' Nathaniel pointed at Hayden. Hayden simply rolled his eyes in response, but he remained quiet. He was eager to witness the dynamic between this horrific duo.

"Yes… but these fires were always meant to be temporary… unlike me." The fire-man let out a boisterous laughter. "I will find a way to get stronger."

"More dark magic." Nathaniel commented with a blank face.

"You know it." The Fire-man smirked. "See you soon." with a wink the entire place was covered in flames. Nathaniel and Hayden escaped the fire barely mainly because Hayden was removed away from it by none other than Nathaniel.

Once they were away, they turned around to see the fire in the place subside, leaving nothing behind. 'Teleportation magic'. Nathaniel made a mental note of what happened a while ago.

After a whole minute of looking around here and there, Hayden couldn't help but ask, "So, may I dare ask how the hell do you know that guy?"

Nathaniel took a moment to reply, "He used to be my... lover."

"Your lover?!" Hayden couldn't help but scoff. For some reason, he found the prospect ridiculous. "You know what love is?"

"Not everyone is as stone-hearted as you, you stupid hunter." Nathaniel snapped. "I might be dead, but at least I'm not as cold-blooded as you." he scoffed, earning a glare from Hayden. "And now you know why I have been sticking around." Nathaniel added in a whisper.

"To reignite your old l flame?" Suggested Hayden in spite.

"Who do you think killed him the first time?" Nathaniel pointed out. "And if required I'd do it again."

"Weren't you the one who just said that he isn't and I quote, 'as not stone-hearted as I am'?" Hayden pointed out in a mocking tone. Nathaniel remained quiet in response to that. "So, who is he?"

Nathaniel looked at Hayden and wondered whether or not he should say anything. On one hand he wanted that bastard dead again before he wreaked havoc in all the supernatural communities in existence. But then again, Hayden too was kind of his enemy (and to whom he might be attracted to, not that he'd ever admit if asked) but he might be capable enough to kill this monster. "His name is Conrad Vance Wyman, he used to be Council head of Warlocks in his days."

"Council of Warlocks…in his days?" Hayden tilted his head. "What do you mean in his days?"

"Back when he was alive," Nathaniel pointed that out as a matter of factly.

"And when was that?" Hayden asked again, to clarify his real question.

"In the seventeen century." Nathaniel blurted.

"Is that why…he called all those grown ups children"? Hayden couldn't help but shudder at that sheer awkwardness of the situation.

"They are his descendants." Nathaniel nodded. "And his followers," he added.

"And what did he do that was so bad?" Hayden asked.

"I am not the internet where you can ask me anything and I will tell you." Nathaniel snapped finally. "You are curious? Do your own research." he shook his head.

"What an ass." Hayden shook his head at the same time.

"Of course, after all I saved your life." Nathaniel huffed.

"I didn't ask you to." Hayden snapped back immediately.

"Whatever." Nathaniel shook his head. "Now, before I waste any more time on this pointless conversation I need to go and find a solution to some real problem before you screw things up for worse." he rolled his eyes and in a swift motion he was gone as well. Hayden stood there in the dark with nothing but his weapons and his car keys on him and sighed. 'Looks like I got work to do' he thought. Despite the complexity of the situation, he kinda loved that he had a dangerous case to solve in his comparatively mundane life.
