"Did you just follow me here?" Smirked Nathaniel.
"Did you just barge into my office?" Hayden retaliated. "What are you doing here?"
"I needed to talk to you…" Nathaniel declared in a serious voice. "I have been following Conrad for a while, his actions and I think I can use your help". He declared.
"Why do you need my help?" Hayden scoffed. "Weren't you invincible? Besides, why would I agree to help you? You're my enemy". Hayden pointed out.
"If you had managed to do your research successfully, you'd know why Conrad is a worse enemy". Nathaniel shrugged. "Which means you kinda need me for information as well."
"Or maybe I didn't research about this dude at all?" Hayden suggested. "You clearly have some unresolved issues with him, so I assume you can take care of him yourself before he becomes my problem." Hayden shrugged.
"You do know that I know you're lying right?" Nathaniel raised a challenging eyebrow.
"Really?" Hayden scoffed. "How would you know whether or not I have been researching your once dead but now alive boyfriend or not?"
"I saw you," Nathaniel shrugged as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Saw me..?" Hayden was perplexed for the moment. "What were you stalking me or something like that?" He huffed.
"Of course" without skipping a beat Nathaniel replied.
What"? Hayden blinked in surprise.
"You can't really be that surprised now, can you?" Nathaniel asked. "What do you think I've been doing all this time here?"
"I thought you're here to learn". Hayden mocked, half joking, half terrified.
"Yes… to learn… about you". Nathaniel shrugged. "So far I haven't been able to track your clan, but I promise you I will find out". He shrugged.
Hayden rolled his eyes, "Aren't you a little bit too concerned with me when you have your ex boyfriend lurking around?"
"Ex-boyfriend?" Nathaniel scoffed. "Conrad has nothing to do with my obsession for you"? He added.
Hayden didn't know how to respond to the word 'obsessed' coming from Nathaniel. Hayden simply stared at the other man and tried to gulp his saliva as he felt his throat drying. "Aren't you being too dramatic?" Hayden finally managed to blurt after a whole minute. "Obsessed is way too much." He huffed.
"Why? That word bothers you a lot?" Nathaniel snickered.
"Of course not." Hayden shrugged. "I was just telling you what is what." he shrugged. "Regardless, I wouldn't be helping you at all. You can go f**k yourself for all I care." he huffed and turned around to leave, but within a second Nathaniel stood in front of Hayden, blocking his way.
"Think about it. Spending time with me might allow you to figure out how to kill me," Nathaniel suggested in a whisper as he lowered his head to come face to face with Hayden as he said it. "When all of this is over, isn't that what you want after all?" he asked Hayden.
"Oh, you have no idea what I want. Killing you is just a tiny check on a long list of abominations." Hayden huffed.
Hearing Hayden call him an abomination hit him way too close to heart, but nonetheless, Nathaniel maintained a straight face followed by a smirk. "A list where I am sure Conrad will hold a high position once you are aware of his deeds." He added with a grudge dipping out of his voice.
"My list is Chronological, so I highly doubt it." Hayden shrugged like it was no big deal. As much as he was dying to know more about Conrad, he knew that if he gave away so easily he might lose the upper hand in this scenario. So he needed to play it cool, make Nathaniel beg to work with him.
"Alright then." Nathaniel declared sternly, "When he becomes your living nightmare, don't tell me I didn't warn you." he added in a cold voice.
"And why would that be"? Hayden scoffed. "He has nothing to do with me. I think you would be his bigger concern, given how you were his… murderer." he added, trying to extract some info.
"If only you knew what Conrad is capable of." Nathaniel shook his head in disbelief. "And now I am not gonna tell you. Information from me won't be free." he added and left the room leaving Hayden standing in the office all by himself.
Hayden was on his way to agreeing to work with Nathaniel, but now it seemed impossible now that Nathaniel was gone. Did Hayden overplay his hand, he wondered? Nonetheless, Hayden clearly underestimated how much Nathaniel might need from him regarding this if Nathaniel was willing to disappear just like that. If Hayden were to extract any more information from Nathaniel now, he would have to find some other way. Hayden couldn't help but sigh at the turn of events as of now.
