"Are you going to be stubborn about this?" Nathan sighed as he looked away. "It's not stubbornness, it's my resolve." Silence reigned once again.

Suddenly, Elena got to her feet. "Then I don't think you need my help anymore." Nathan closed his eyes. "Why are you saying this now?"

"Isn't it obvious?... After what happened down in the basement, I realized just how dangerous this is." "But I handled it." Elena scoffed as she rolled her eyes. "Barely. You think we would be that lucky next time?"

"…" He could not bring himself to say anything else. "It won't be fair if I dedicated effort to your goal and forget that we are more than just two people. I'm going to say this one more time, Nate…"

She paused, causing the tension between them to increase. "Drop this and follow me. We will rendezvous with the rest and hold down the fort together."
