"Now you are crossing the line and looking down on us you bastard!" of course, it wasn't surprising that they cursed him.

Nathan scoffed, almost like he didn't hear their acidic words. "I said step forward!... Challenge me and prove that you are worthy of being tagged as hardworking."

No-one around them could understand his thought process at this point, because to everyone present, it sounded like words of a crazy person.
