SUMIRE
This job wasn't exactly assigned to her, no doubt Aki sent the message to others too. But, she just happened to be the fastest one to react. When she thought Sano would be in danger, she didn't hesitate to come here without thinking of the consequences.
Sano sighed. "I thought so. You never told me but I did figure it out. So your-"
"Part of the Holy knights." Sumire finished for him.
Sano frowned hearing those words and for a moment Sumire thought he would get angry. His gaze suddenly seems dark. She is more than familiar with his temper and mood swings. Before she could ask him what was wrong. Sano covered his mouth with hers, devouring her lips.
His hand reached for hair, pulling her head back. His other hand on her shirt as he kissed her passionately, possessively, frantic and desperate.
What is he trying to do?
But why is she so surprised? When they saw each other again for the first time after they broke up, during Ru's brief hospitalisation. He acted kind towards her. There was no sign of the cruelty he showed her on the day they broke up. It was confusing and she ought to have gotten angry at him. She ought to have mocked him for his sudden kindness, and insulted him. But she didn't do any of those things, she just couldn't.
"Woah, am I interrupting?" A familiar voice said from the door way. It was Arata. He was looking at the
Sumire shoved Sano away and he winced.
"S--sorry. But don't, don't do that." Sumire apologized.
"I see. He's marked you." Sano said with a frown.
Sumire fished red and covered her neck recalling Tohs behaviour. Right, of course he left a mark. His lips lingered on her neck longer than usual. So it's natural. How humiliating. It's a good thing the terrorists destroyed most of the lights. She doubts her opponents would have found her scary if they saw the marks.
"You know. I came here to meet with you, because you're one of Lucifer's people?" Arata said to Sano.
"He isn-" Sumire started.
"Yeah."
Sumire blinked hearing his reply. Sano is working for that man? Since when?
"After we broke up." Sano read her thoughts.
"Right, so I came here to meet with you. But judging from what those guys said. They received orders to attack you. Did you get Lucifer mad or something? They are definitely acting on his orders."
"Not that I know off. It's true I am taking my time with the next shipment, but that's because the dealers are trying to get more than the original agreement."
Arata frowned. "Then maybe it's just a bunch acting out? Though this seems a bit extreme."
Sumire rolled her eyes at that comment. Coming from him? The terrorist wanted world wide?
"You know Ibuki. Lucifer is after you."
Sumire sighed. "I know that too."
"I teamed up with the Black alixe organisation. temporarily, because Lucifer sent me your file. While I dislike working for anybody, he made a deal I couldn't refuse. "
"You're so hung up on me. Aki is strong too you know?" Sumire sighed. There is even Ru and Masaru-senpai who would be more than willing to fight challengers.
"A fight with that sly bastard is no fun." Arata trailed off. "Besides, Aki is different from us."
Sumire is relieved that Sano didn't get any closer to her since she shoved him away, since Arata suddenly aimed his fun at her.
Sumire aims back perfectly, deflecting the bullet from Arata's gun. Arata laughed.
"See?
She only sighed.
Arata turned to Sano. "I can see why Lucifer recruited you. He probably thought Ibuki here would be weak against you, and it seems like he was right wasn't he?"
Sumire wanted to deny those words but she knew she wouldn't be able to do so. Because it's true isn't it? Even though they broke up, even though Sano hurt her. She still cares, and that's exactly why Toh was so angry at that time.
Hearing another explosion Arata leaves once again, and Sumire makes sure to put some distance between herself and Sano. She kept glancing over though to check on his condition.
His arm is in bad shape, he must have been within arms reach of one of the bombs exploding. It wasn't just his arm, her gaze fell on both of his legs. Did they get crushed with rubble too?
Feeling Sano's gaze on her, this time she is the one who broke the silence.
"Did you really make a deal with Lucifer?" Sumire asked.
Sano doesn't say anything. He always stayed quiet whenever he wanted to avoid answering her questions. But, she won't let that happen today.
"Why didn't you discuss it with me?"
"I didn't- my family was in trouble and I had to-" Sano fumbled on his words.
Sumire shakes her head.
"If you discussed it with me, this wouldn't have happened."
"You would have played along?"
"Of course I would have, until we found a better solution." Sumire sighed deeply. "I thought you trusted me San."
She would have gone along with it and pretended to break up with him. But secretly meet him, and find a way to get him out of the mess his family ended up in. If he just talked to her instead of hiding things, she would never have misunderstood him. Neither of them would have had to get hurt.
"I do."
"Then.." Sumire hits his chest lightly. "You should have told me. You're so silly.! I spent so much time hating you."
She spent so many lonely nights filled with rage and bitterness.
Sano cringed. "You hate me?"
"I wish I did, I wish I could. But, I really can't. There was a time where you made me happy."
At those words Sano weakly moved closer to her as he pulled her into his arms. "Sorry, I'm really sorry, Sumire."
This isn't the first time she has heard him apologize. When they were dating he apologized often after a serious fight. But, this is the first time where she is hearing him apologize and feeling very emotional.
If only she saw this side of him sooner, then perhaps their relationship wouldn't have failed. Perhaps she wouldn't have lost her remaining trust in the world.
