World Of Darkness

Xander went up to the balcony in his magnificent room, staring idly at the pitch black sky while giving Damian a quick call on the phone.

His mind was far from the end tunnel as he heard it beep for a while before the call was received.

He closed his eyes, letting out a relieved sigh as the call successfully went through.

"You two alright?" Was the first question which escaped his lips.

"Yeah yeah, we're fine just…. something unexpected happened."

Xander's pretty brow knitted as a frown masked his handsome face, judging from Damian's tone it doesn't seem to be any good news.

"What happened?"

"Can't explain on the phone, we're almost at the house, see you in 5 mins."

Xander disconnected the call after his reply, Damian sounded a little uneasy on the phone which was pretty much unlike him.

Did the lady manage to escape or what? He doubts that's the case so what could it be?

Brushing that temporarily from his mind, he went down the stairs to the living room, awaiting their arrival but his gaze landed on the petite Anxi who had fallen asleep on the couch.

His eyes scanned over her Lilliputian body as she hugged herself, subconsciously trying to keep her body warm from the cold.

He found it impossible to stop staring whenever his eyes landed on her, an unsettling emotion aroused inside of him and he went back upstairs.

He returned with a duvet, lying Anxi properly on the couch before covering her up with the duvet.

He stared at her sleepy face and how harmless she looked, the fear, hesitation and anxiety all gone.

The door to the entrance of the living room opened up, grasping his attention. Damian and Xandria lazily walked in, looking drained out after that chase they had with the strange person on a cloak.

Xander turned his attention to them while their tired gazes landed on Anxi who was sleeping soundly on the couch.

"She's still here?" Xandria couldn't hide the surprise in her tone while Damian eyed his friend suspiciously.

"What did you do to her?"

"Nothing." He gave a straight reply, "it's past 11, it's dangerous to be outside at this hour so I let her stay."

Xandria's mouth hung agape seeing Anxi being covered with a duvet and shot her brother a death glare which he noticed.

"You heartless monster! You never once covered me with a duvet when I felt cold.!!"

She complained but the heartless fellow looked even more relaxed as he met her gaze.

"I'm not your boyfriend, neither do I look like your husband, don't start meaningless argument and let's cut to the chase, meet me upstairs in my balcony."

He walked out, leaving that chastening aura which never allowed her to speak back.

Xandria kept her confused gaze locked on her brother, finding it difficult to understand him.

For once if she could just tame that dominance inside of him it'll do her a lot more good.

He's still as cold as ever but being surprisingly gentle to his new secretary?

Strange.

"Come on." Damian's voice brought her out of her daze and she nodded, clearing that thought from her mind.

They made it to Xander's room, stepping in and heading to the balcony where he calmly sat on the chaise lounge, pressing his phone and looking super dashing even without trying, he looked like a model who just jumped out of a TV set based on his sitting posture right now.

A cameraman would be tempted to take a picture of him, but he didn't utter a word, patiently awaiting their explanation.

"Start talking."

Damian plopped on the swing while Xandria sat beside her brother on the chaise lounge.

"The lady's dead bruh." Damian finally broke the news to him making him stop at whatever he was doing on his phone.

"Who?"

"The lady who laced the drink with poison, she's dead." Xandria repeated Damian's word, making Xander sit up at the information.

Out of all the random ideas his brain had come up with, he certainly didn't think about death.

"How did it happen?"

"It's still shocking man, she was so close to revealing the identity of that person but suddenly kept screaming…..that he was there."

Xander's brow arched in confusion, unable to understand what his friend was trying to pinpoint to him.

"What Damian is trying to explain to you is, the person after your life was present there, at the alley, watching us and seeing everything that happened."

Xander's eyes dilated a bit like he wasn't expecting such an information, a sudden anger aroused deep inside of him but he managed to tame it.

One day he decides not to go and his hunter shows up.

"He killed the lady with two straight arrows aiming for her heart, knowing there'd be no chance of survival."

"Did he get away?"

"We chased him as much as we could but he was incredibly fast, too fast to_even be human." Damian cryptically uttered like he was equally speaking to himself as well.

Xandria nodded in agreement. "I doubt he's human cause we barely sensed his presence at that place."

"I'm a wolf so we have strong sense when it comes to smell, yet I couldn't fish him out almost like he wasn't even there at all."

"So we're basically talking about Illusions?" Xandria thoughtfully inquired while her brother shook his head in demurral.

"No, the person we turn out to be dealing with isn't human, even for a wolf to be unable to fish him out he must have resulted to some magical means."

"So you're saying we're dealing with a witch here?"

"A wizard you mean?" Xandria corrected Damian but he shrugged it off.

"Anyone."

"A mage can make the use of magical means, he must have ceased his scent and made a few unknown changes that'll make him go unnoticed."

"So what do we do?"

"We wait." Xander replied calmly, he was certainly in no rush at all, he was interested in this game they were playing, hide and seek had always been a fun game after all.

"Should we contact Devil King? He might be able to help us out here." Xandria thoughtfully said but Xander immediately opposed to her suggestion.

"Don't even go there."

"When will you two stop beefing around like this? This is a serious issue and we can't joke around with something as life threatening as this."

"Devil King is the one getting on my nerves." He shot back at his sister.

"Reasons why I haven't visited country X for 5 years now, neither is he bothered about it so why bother him?"

Xandria had a lot more to say to this prideful brother of hers but decided to seal her lips before they argue.

Damian got to his feet and stretched his limbs, feeling exhausted from the whole night incident.

"I'm going to sleep on Xander's bed now, definitely can't make it home tonight so see you all in the morning."

With that, he stepped out of the balcony and headed towards Xander's bed, Xandria met her brother's gaze and enunciated carefully.

"If I end up losing you Xander, trust me I'll hate you for eternities to come."

He scoffed. "Don't you hate me already?"

"You're my brother, I can tolerate every other atrocities from you but the one I won't stand is watching you die if you don't take this matter seriously, I won't be able to bear it if I end up losing you and you know that."

Xander had no replies to give, neither was she expecting one

Ever since that incident sixteen years ago, Xander was never the same person he used to be but she hasn't stopped hoping to get her brother back.

She got to her feet and stepped out of the balcony, Xander had remained emotionless in front of her but the minute she left, those painful memories tore at him with the aim to reap him of his comfort.

He was faced with his pains and guilts of not being able to do anything to save his family sixteen years ago.

He couldn't remember how he got saved, all he knew was that before he passed out, those fools of a goon had locked them all in the house after stabbing his family with an iron blade and setting the house on fire, not just any fire.

He only woke up in a hospital after a few days to find Xandria and the Devil King beside him.

In his world he didn't only deal with humans but supernatural beings which included wolves, vampires, beasts but he was neither of them, he wasn't human or a beast, he was born a half demon and so was his sister.

Before his parents died, they had revealed to him exactly what he was but he didn't know that being faced with the truth would shove him into a world of darkness, where he had to kill or get killed.

Where he had to bury his own heart in order to remain merciless and cold, even to his own sister.

He didn't let anyone see his pain even till this day, it was something he had to endure on his own as well as the darkness surrounding him.

Whenever he felt this unstable, his mind only drifted to one thing and that was alcohol.

Getting up to his feet, he left the balcony, stepping out of his room and making his way downstairs to grab some alcohol.

Just before he could get to the kitchen, his gaze landed on the beautiful Anxi who was sound asleep on the comfy couch.

He watched her for a while before stroding to her side, crouching beside her as he stared at her face.

His eyes diverted to her hands and he couldn't stop himself from interlacing their fingers together, almost like it was his impulse which controlled him.

His heart calmed seeing her so peaceful and it puzzled him greatly.

Strange, just merely looking at her and holding her hand was enough to ease him of his ache.

No matter how hard he tried, it seemed impossible to understand exactly what she was doing to him.
