His ears grasped her words and that made his heart sink, he knew there was no better way to avoid the situation than to face it. Right now he was caught between a rock and a hard stone.
He let out a deep breath before meeting her gaze, she wasn't smiling and he knew he was in for bad news.
The look in her eyes made a part of him feel horrible, for the first time in his life he actually felt guilty about something and immediately tried to explain..
"Anxi.."
"Why didn't you tell me?" She interjected, the sadness could easily be heard in her soft voice as she locked gaze with him, that's what she wanted to know most, all of this just felt confusing and her heart could barely take it.
"Everything that happened at the hotel, why leave me in the dark about something as serious as that, why didn't you tell me?"
Xander remained quiet as he averted his gaze, he didn't know how he plans on explaining the situation to her and closed his eyes to recollect himself back.
"I didn't want it to get in the way of......everything." And that was the truth, if she knew about it all then he doubts she would have been so free with him like she had been this past few weeks.
"Is this why you wanted to date me? Do you have a motive behind it cause I actually found it difficult to believe you'd want to date someone like me."
"I had no motive." He replied firmly as he got to his feet, he hates it when she uses phrases like that, what is so wrong in the fact he wants to be with her?
Why was she finding it difficult to believe? He strode up to her so he could stand right before her.
"I didn't."
"Everything that has happened Xander, it was all your doing isn't it?" She questioned further.
"Making me work here and becoming your secretary, you carried such a perfect plan cause I was stupid enough to fall for them, didn't you?"
He clicked his tongue as more of his secret got revealed, she was smart enough to even wrap those up too??
"It's a misunderstanding, about that…"
"I won't fall for it." She caught him off, leaving Xander to stop mid-sentence. "Yes I know that I can be very naive and foolish but I don't wish to be played any longer."
She was even at the verge of tears, "my life has already been played, toiled and controlled enough and it's still difficult to take in, I don't want to experience more of it, it's game over Xander."
The tension in his office could be felt as everywhere fell silent, even the faintest of sound wasn't even heard.
She looked teary eyed and that made a part of him ache so bad that his fist clenched in an attempt to suppress himself from showing any sign of emotion.
What did he have to say, he had nothing to say and could only suppress himself from wiping the tears that were threatening to fall from the brim of her eyes.
She walked out without turning back for even once and he sank back to his chair, realizing how bad he just messed up.
Anxi headed straight to her office while wiping the tears away, sinking onto her chair as well as her brain was a total mess.
She actually wanted to believe Xander was genuine, she really wanted to but at the same time, she's so scared of being played and turning into a complete fool so why not avoid it while knowing she still can.

Xander had Damian on the phone who tsked at Xander's words, he could sense how down his friend sounded and knew it must have hit him pretty hard to make him feel this way.
"I told you brother, I knew it would cause some complicated problems for you but the thing is 'YOU NEVER LISTEN'." Damian emphasized that part clearly.
"Are you going to blame me too or help me?" Xander wasn't in the mood to feel guilty for the twentieth time, he hated that feeling and all he could think about was getting Anxi to not hate him.
"Are you actually asking for my help?"
"Don't even think about using it to tease me, I'll cut your tongues out." Xander threatened but Damian wasn't going to give up easily.
Xander has been his best friend and he knows all of Xander's mood but getting frustrated just cause a girl didn't talk to him was something new he was witnessing.
"Do you miss her?"
"Okay fine, you can tease me later but help a brother out."
"Did she give an answer?"
"She didn't need to, her expression said it all."
"Doesn't work like that." Damian disagreed. "She hasn't given you a yes/no answer yet so in the meantime, try to do what will make her happy or something, that'll uplift her mood."
"Something like what?"
"Don't expect me to give you hints, you're on your own and if you really like her, then you'll know exactly what to do."
"Useless!" Xander muttered.
"Hey I heard that!"
He ended the call before Damian gives him a little piece of his own anger.

At Xander's office, Anxi had to meet him to collect some files that needed some quick look into as he arranged it up for her.
She barely said a word to him and just kept her gaze fixated on the file which was stretched out to her.
"Here, look it over and give me your feedback."
Anxi didn't spare him a single glance and took the file from him, which sort of hurt his feelings immensely but he refused to give in and kept himself together.
She stepped out of his office and headed straight to her own, sitting comfortably on her seat and going through the files like he requested.
He was her boss so ignoring him would be quite fatal for her. As much as she tried not to look at his direction, her eyes always betrayed her but thankfully he didn't notice.
She carefully went through everything on the file, unwilling to let herself get distracted based on her personal problems but surprisingly, the last paper was different and when she turned it over to see what it was, it had a crying emoji and written underneath was;
'I AM SORRY'
Her eyes widened and her mouth hung agape as she was completely awestruck by it, how...how did something like this get here?
Anxi's mind instantly received a reload and it drifted to when Xander was actually getting the files arranged for her.
Did Xander really send this?????????
