I broke into a run, stumbling over a few corpses on the way. Our greatest adversaries, the vile Sol mages, humans blessed with the ability to harness the power of the sun, beings designed for the purpose of slaying Werewolves, our bane, our nightmare, our greatest fear.
"If we end one here..... the future will look a whole lot brighter going forward!" I shouted, "Yes, she had him on the ropes when I left, she barred anyone from helping her..." Dorian said.
"Is she stupid!? let's just pile on him and be done with it!" "..... you know that's not an option for us...." "What do you mean?" "..... you know our tradition forbids it," is he serious? "Are you serious.....? Tradi-" "Your won't understand until we reach there, until you see it, so for now let's keep moving," with that the conversation ended, we didn't speak after that, we simply ran, a million and one thoughts flooded my head, I hope Amari knows what she's doing.
We finally reached our destination, the marketplace, there's was a crowd surrounding the place, on one side stood the Werewolves, our kin on another stood the humans, no one was fight each other, it was like they all had an unspoken agreement, to spectate the duel taking place, on one side stood Amari, in her full Beast form, her golden fur shone brightly in the moonlight, it was dyed red with blood, her long sharp Claws, as cold and unforgiving as any blade, and most importantly, her blood red eyes filled with determination, behind it laid the hope of our pack.
Opposite her was the Sol mage, he was dressed in the standard red and gold robes of legend, with a sigil of the sun shield on his left breast, the tool of Sol, their sun god. He conjured a snake sword made of fire and a shield made of light, the weapons illuminated against Amari's monstrous form.
She towered over him, standing on all four legs, she resembled a typical wolf, but bigger, way bigger, she stood 14 feet tall, twice her usual height, her mouth salivating, she was eager to tear this man to pieces, yet..... they just stood there watching each other.....
"Are they gonna do anything yet?" I whispered to Dorian, "Shush child! the first to move will be revealing their hand! she needs to be careful, the treat she faces today is the same taste nearly wiped out our kind!" Dorian spoke.
".....I am aware still...." "just have faith in our Alpha, she knows what she's doing," I hope she does, everything is banking on this, this is our first step, our first REAL step, if we can take down a Sol mage, it will be a huge blow to the whole of humanity, if their strongest cannot defeat us, then they have no hope, if she doesn't overcome him, then this is whole endeavor would be for nought, if we can't kill one Sol mage, possibly we can't hope to stand a chance against an entire team made of them.
The mage stepped forward, the raised his sword above his right shoulder, the snake blade released its constraints, it elongated and dropped to the floor, it reached about 2m, it resembled a falling whip, he took a stance preparing to attack, before lashing out! Amari lept into the air avoiding the blade, she lept higher than her mass should allow her and she landed just as nimbly, she lunged forward baring her fangs ready to Tear the mage apart, he raised his light shield and blocked her fangs.
SHRRRRNNNKKK
Amari's teeth scraped against the shield making a defeaning sound, the mage raised his weapon again and backed off before he could attack.
He whiped the blade again, she dodged dancing around it, he wiped again, she danced again, they went at it back and forth, no side able to gain the upper hand on the other, occasionally the mage would lunge forward, giving chase to Amari, trying his best to maim her, but he'd quickly go back on the defensive, "he's a cowardly fighter!" I spat, "No, he is being careful, that's how wary he is of our Alpha!" Dorian corrected, be that as it may-
The blade started morphing! it's changing shape, is he changing tactics, as if to confirm my thoughts his sword turns into a..... "spear!" I shouted, The mage lunged forward, he ferociously stabbed at Amari she dodged most of them but still got some cuts around her shoulders, she lept forward, risking a counter attack but she was rewarded with a shield bash to the face.
"This is bad!" I muttered, Dorian didn't say anything to time, I couldn't read his expression but I knew he was getting worried too! The humans were cheering the Sol mage on, with each stab and bash he slowly overwhelmed Amari until he was able to stab deep into her chest.
"Amari!" I shouted.
