Chapter16: Revive the Fire (Updated Version)

Wolf attacked Jason on his left side using his other claw.

Jason quickly detached his sword from the double-sided sword and stopped the attack with his left sword.

At this moment, the situation was like Jason using both swords to stop the claws of the wolf while the wolf stood on its hind legs and used its front legs to attack Jason. It was a scenario straight out of a movie.

Jason was stopping an attack from a wolf that was much bigger than an elephant. Jason couldn't maintain the stalemate for much longer, and the wolf used its power to throw Jason backwards.

This time, Jason was ready and did a mid-air flip, using the momentum to land perfectly on his feet 10 meters away.

Jason didn't have much time to feel comfortable before the wolf launched a slash attack, even without getting near him.

A three-line sharp claw-like object went towards Jason. Before Jason could react, the line passed through him, and blood spurted out of his chest.

A claw mark appeared on Jason's chest, and blood dripped on the ground through the injury.

The attack was so fast that Jason wasn't able to move even an inch or move his swords to parry the attack. Even after getting injured, he didn't understand what type of attack it was and how it hurt him so badly.

The attack was like three lines almost transparent, all in an ice blue colour, which passed through his chest and made three large and deep cuts.

"What the hell is this?" Jason asked the wolf while panting.

"This is a slash attack," the wolf replied.

"The hell, I already know that. Tell me something I don't know," Jason said sarcastically.

The blood stopped dripping, and Jason attacked the wolf again.

However, the result was the same as the previous time. Jason took another injury while he didn't even push the wolf to defend itself.

Jason's whole body was covered in injuries, and even using mana didn't stop the blood from dripping through the wounds.

As Jason continued his fight, his movements started to get slower with each passing second.

He had already lost a lot of blood. Even though his body supported him at this moment, Jason's mind was working at its best.

His determination and will were so high that he had a smile on his face, as if he was enjoying his fight even knowing that he was going to die.

Bam! Jason was smashed against a tree, and blood sprouted through his mouth. He got into a kneeling position, but he got back on his feet.

Currently, Jason had lost count of how many times he was smashed or thrown like this or how many of his bones were crushed. "Give up, boy, and let me kill you swiftly. Why are you putting up such a pathetic fight? If you can't continue, give up, boy, give up," the wolf said.

"Give up, give up, give up." At this moment, it started to ring again and again inside Jason's head.

Jason felt like a god-like voice or a devil was whispering beside his ear. Thoughts started to come up in his mind like he should have accepted the first offer, and he wouldn't have to face this much pain, or give up so that he wouldn't have to face the pain again.

Looking at Jason's situation, the wolf got disappointed, as if he was testing Jason from the start.

As Jason was about to give up, a memory suddenly surfaced inside his mind.

It was a memory from when he was just eight years old, reading a novel given to him by his friend on his birthday.

He remembered how he had wanted to learn the different mysteries of the universe and even die fighting like the main character in the novel he had been reading just a moment ago.

This was not just a random memory. This was a memory that changed his life and everything about him.

"I don't want to die like this. I don't want it," Jason said, feeling a sudden burst of determination.

The flame that was almost burned out suddenly started to burn at an unprecedented rate.

Watching Jason regain his fighting spirit, the wolf felt happy but did not let it show on its face. Jason pointed his sword towards the wolf and shouted loudly, "I can do this all day!"

Just then, the wolf attacked Jason and smashed him into another tree.

"I can't do this all day. I can't," Jason whimpered in pain after getting smashed.

Using all the energy inside his body, Jason managed to get on his feet. He took a look at Lily behind him and then finally made a choice.

"Hey, wolf, if I manage to scratch you, will you fulfill your promise?" Jason asked the wolf.

"Of course, but the question is whether you can do that," the wolf replied.

"I'm sorry, Tiffany, but I had to do that. There is no other option. I hope you will forgive me," Jason thought to himself.

Jason started circulating the remaining mana inside his body in a very different technique with each circulation of mana.

He used this skill not only because he believed the words of the wolf, but also because there was no other option other than this.

His body started to absorb mana from the outside at an astonishing rate, and the mana inside his body increased.

Jason's body started to glow, just like when you heat something beyond its capability, which results in it glowing.

The wolf calmly watched Jason and did not show any tendency to attack until Jason was ready to fight.

"So, you've made up your mind, huh?" The wolf asked.

Jason nodded his head in approval of whatever the words said by the wolf meant.

"If you don't mind, may I ask where did you learn this?" The wolf asked respectfully, as being more powerful than Jason and as an enemy, it was disrespectful to ask about their skills.

"Well, I don't mind at all," Jason replied. As he circulated the mana, he started to tell the wolf how he learned this technique.

"... After I saved him, he gave me this technique, but he warned me to only use it when I was certain that I was going to die."

"There are still some of them left even on your planet," the wolf said after hearing Jason's story.

"Whom are you talking about?" Jason asked, narrowing his eyes.

"If I tell you, will it help you improve the situation you are in?" The wolf replied sarcastically.

Hearing that, Jason nodded his head in approval. He knew that if someone used this technique but didn't learn it fully before activating it at its full power, they would die within a few minutes after activating it.

Jason was fully aware that he was going to die, but he wanted to create a chance for Lily to live, so he decided to sacrifice himself without even thinking twice.

The other main reason for his actions was that he wanted to give his all, so that he would not regret later that even in his last moments, he didn't give his all.

That's why he decided to use the deadliest art he knows of - the one and only "Pyro Infernal".

Despite practising it for over 10 years, he knew he had only mastered a fraction of its true power.
