Jasmine hugged the commander once again. She then turned to Echo, "Echo, can you keep him safe?"
"Yes, ma'am," Echo replied, lowering her head in respect.
The commander walked to the door, turning back to Echo, "Are you going out like that?"
"Revelioro." Echo mumbled. Her outfit changed to a black, leather warrior outfit, she pulled the hood down, and raised her hand as her sword appeared in it.
The commander looked amused and walked out of the door. Echo followed him, remembering the words Jasmine told her.
Too deep in thought, Echo did not realise they had arrived at a large gate in another section of the mansion. Even then, she awaited orders with the only thing running through her mind, 'I can't let them down too.'
The commander turned to a blank faced Echo. He looked at her for a while, before asking, "Are you okay?"
"Yes," Echo replied without hesitation. She snapped out of her thoughts, and looked around them.
A large glowing portal stood in front of them. It was made out of rocks just like the rest of the room.
The commander walked to the console beside the portal, selecting the location on the map. He stepped into the portal once he was done.
Watching in awe, Echo followed his lead, and stepped into the portal too. She found herself in a dark, empty parking lot. Thunder roared in the sky, bringing a large rain down along with it.
"We don't have much time, let's move," the commander ordered. He walked around a puddle making his way to the large warehouse on the other side of the parking lot.
Echo walked through the puddle, wondering if the commander was unable to bring them any closer to the warehouse. It would have reduced the amount they had to walk, and they would not have gotten soaked in the rain either.
They arrived outside the main door to the warehouse. Echo gripped her sword, she knew anything could be waiting for them inside. It didn't scare her, but she hated ambushes.
The commander silently pushed the door open, but the old wood door creaked.
Echo stepped forward into the well lit warehouse. She immediately regretted walking in… it was an ambush.
"Why does my gut always have to be right?" Echo mumbled to herself. They were surrounded.
Echo watched the enemies closely, she had trained with the witches for this moment, all she had to do was recall her training. It seemed like an easy task to her, so she set her plan in action.
Swiftly moving through the air, her sword became one with her. It was like a dance to her, she had practised several times, and now the moves were flowing through her.
Echo attacked the demons one after the other, defending herself from their blows. The commander aided her by attacking the demons on the other side.
Dodging below a blade, Echo used her sword to block a demon's fire breath. The commander conjured a shield around them. The remaining demons kept attacking them with fire magic.
"I could really use some help," the commander fell to his knees as he held the shield up.
Echo looked at the commander and then at the demons, panicking. She turned to the commander and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
"Use your magic."
"I don't have magic," Echo replied, looking at the commander who grimaced, trying to keep the shield up, not hearing what she said.
Echo walked out of the shield with her sword blocking the fire in front of her. She stepped closer to the demon, unbeknownst to her, another demon behind her lifted his hands, sending a fireball at her.
The commander stretched his hands out, making the shield into a projectile. All the demons, and Echo fell to the ground.
Echo looked at the commander, he was gasping. She stood up, and rushed to him, "Are you okay?"
The commander shook his head in response. Echo looked at the demons on the ground, they were beginning to move.
"We need to go," the commander ordered, as he coughed.
Echo helped him up, making their way out of the warehouse. She wasn't one to run from a fight, but she made a promise to his wife to keep him safe, and she hated breaking promises.
Once they were outside, Echo thought it would be much easier, but she was wrong.
"Damon!" Echo recognised one of the demons who were standing outside, waiting for them.
The commander looked at Echo, "You know him."
Echo nodded slightly. She stared at the demons who once again surrounded them. There was no way around this time, she had to fight them and keep the commander safe too.
Damon put his hands together creating a large fireball, he looked at the commander, and shot it at him.
Echo jumped in front of the commander, getting hit by the fireball. She felt a sharp pain go through her body, as she fell to the ground. The last thing she saw was the commander grip his sword in both his hands, and then everything blacked out.
—
Echo felt something cold around her hands and feet. Her eyes were still closed, and she was lying on something very comfortable, it was soft and squishy.
It took a few minutes, but eventually Echo opened her eyes. At first her vision was a blur with time it became clear.
Echo looked around, her hands and feet were tied to a bed, with light purple sheets. A large dresser and a mirror stood in front of the bed, and to her left was a window. Turning to the right, she saw a table, and a man was seated at it.
She was dressed in new clothes, and tucked in under a purple blanket. The shackles on Echo's hands made noise as she tried to scratch her nose.
"Hmm… You're awake," a deep masculine voice came from the man.
Echo turned to the man and gulped. She felt a sharp pain in her abdomen while trying to sit up. The shackles restricted her movement, forcing her to lay back down, trying not to imagine what would happen next.
