Chapter 41 - Talking About Children

Echo gulped as Damon glared at her. He was towering over her, with the most intimidating aura. Did she do something wrong? Why was he acting like this? He dragged her in, right, and he kissed her. So why was he so angry now?

"Do you like someone else?" Damon asked.

The question made Echo more confused. What was he saying? Who was this someone else? She had just let him kiss her and now he was talking about someone else? What was wrong with this man? She got angry thinking about his question.

"What are you talking about Damon?" Echo asked, patiently waiting for an explanation.

Damon narrowed his eyes, and stepped closer to her, "What am I talking about?" He kept moving closer to her, and she kept stepping back until she knocked on the wall behind her. Damon gave her an almost evil smirk when her eyes widened.

She wanted to escape from her current position, so she bent down to move away, but he trapped her by placing his hands beside her on the wall.

"Damon! What are you doing?" Echo asked, as he leaned his face closer to her. She turned her face away from him, closing her eyes. She waited for him to kiss her but he didn't. Opening her eyes, she felt like she was going crazy with this man in front of her. His face was so close to hers, that she could feel his hot breath brushing on her face.

"Answer my question, and I'll let you go," he replied, with a smug smile.

She caught him running his eyes over her, and she sighed. He was such an arrogant and shameless man, she thought. She might have been wrong to expect more from him, but he was after all a demon, and demons are known to be arrogant and egoistic.

"No!" she answered.

"What?"

"There! I answered your question, now let me go," she replied, tilting her head to the side, and raising her eyebrow. She had no idea that what she did made Damon more crazy for her. She saw him gulp hard, and then step back, looking at the ground. Echo glanced at him, and strode toward the Healer's Room.

Damon followed her without uttering a single word. He was thinking about how cute she looked when she tilted her head, and how she unknowingly revealed more of her neck to him. She was starting to innocently seduce him, and he was dying inside. How could someone do something so innocently? He sighed, scratching the back of his neck, as he watched Echo's proud stride.

They arrived outside the Healer's Room, and Echo lightly tapped on the door.

"Hey!" Jasmine greeted them, as she opened the door. She smiled brightly, relieving some of the stress Echo had in her mind.

"Hi," Echo replied, stepping in. The room was not as gloomy as she expected. Jane was nowhere to be found, but the commander was there, with Ryder.

Jasmine patted Ryder's head who was sitting on the table, with his legs dangling back and forth. "Have you met Echo and Damon?" Jasmine asked.

Ryder nodded his little head, while his straight blonde hair whipped back and forth, and settled back in its position.

Echo smiled at the child's behaviour. She found him rather adorable. He had a few qualities of his father, and a few of his mother.

The commander held Ryder to keep him from falling, he looked at Damon who was looking emotionless.

Echo felt a warm hand suddenly wrap around her shoulder, and she was pulled closer to Damon. Before he could say anything, she glared at him.

Simply ignoring her glare, Damon moved closer to her, until his body was touching hers. He was rather possessive of her, even though she was looking at the child, he needed to make sure everyone knew that she was his.

Ryder wiggled on the table, and looked at Echo, raising his hands up, asking her to pick him up. He had a sweet smile, as he reached towards her.

Echo leaned closer to Damon, "Uhm!... Please tell me that he's asking you to carry him."

"Nope! He's looking at you!" Damon replied. A smirk formed on his face, when he suddenly wanted to see how she would interact with the child.

The commander who was silent the whole time noticed every single thing that was happening in the room. He was too old to not notice the sudden panic on Echo's face, so he chose the moment to tease her a bit, something he rarely does, unless the person he was teasing was someone close to him.

"Don't tell me that you're an adult who's scared of children!" the commander scoffed. His voice was back to his usual cold voice, and not anywhere near the voice he used to talk to his son.

Echo glared at the commander and crossed her arms, "It's not my fault that I've never carried a child before."

Jasmine turned to Echo in shock, "How old are you?"

"Twenty four… that's with last year," Echo replied, looking at everyone's faces that were now more shocked than earlier. Except for Damon who had a devilish smirk on his face.

Echo's eyes lingered on Damon's smile. She knew him too well to know whatever came after that smile was never good. He was staring right at her.

"How are you going to take care of our children if you have no idea how to carry a child?" Damon asked, without caring at the least that they were in public, and he could easily embarrass her with his question.

Echo narrowed her eyes, as she glared at him, "First, that's why there's two parents. Second…" she gritted her teeth, and light hit his chest, continuing, "You haven't even asked me to be your girlfriend, and here you are talking about children."

She crossed her arms and glaring at him. His smile broadened, annoying Echo more, until she realised. Her words meant that she liked him. She was embarrassed, but kept her glare on him without a single twitch of her muscles.
