"It's hard to imagine that most of the stars we see might actually be dead now."
"Huh?" Damon asked, raising an eyebrow. He was so busy admiring her that he did not hear what she said.
Echo glanced at him, and back at the sky. She felt his gaze on her this time, making goosebumps on her skin. "The stars. It's hard to imagine that most of them are already dead."
Damon took some time to contemplate his answer, "It's understandable!"
What was he talking about? Echo racked her brain, but was still confused. It was logically understandable, but what was he saying? She sighed.
"What's understandable?" she asked, turning her gaze to him. He was staring up at the sky, with his mouth slightly agape. His hair was being messed up by the cool breeze, and his shirt was sticking to his chiselled chest. Echo gulped at the sight of him, he was looking like a model.
Damon caught her staring at him, and a slight smirk formed on his lips, "Everything is an effect of the past. So it's understandable that the lights from the stars are too." He paused expecting her to say something, but she was busy admiring him, so he continued, "We are here in this current position due to the effects of past choices."
Echo sighed. He was getting all philosophical after asking to stargaze with her. She smiled at the thought that maybe he was feeling more at ease around her.
"Does that mean that you believe in destiny and fate now?" Echo asked. She leaned on the railing and stared up at the stars.
Damon scoffed, "Why are you so persistent about making me believe about fate and destiny?" He glanced at Echo, who made eye contact with him.
She turned around to face him and sat on the railing. Instinctively, Damon stood in front of her, and wrapped his hands around her waist. Echo felt his breath brush her forehead. She smiled, and turned her gaze to the ground in embarrassment.
He saw her cheeks turn red as she stared at the ground with a cute smile. Keeping one hand around her waist, he lifted her chin to face him with his other. She was looking everywhere else except at him.
"Are you not going to answer my question?" he asked, in a soft raspy voice that made him feel a small vibration in his chest.
His voice made her forget everything. How could he ask her a question by being so close to her, and talking to her in such an alluring voice. A small sigh left her lips, as she gazed into his dark eyes.
Seeing that she was hypnotised by him, a smirk formed on his lips. He did not expect her to react to him the way she did. He was just watching out for her safety, and since he was so close to her, he felt like it was useless to speak loud.
He leaned back a bit, and glanced at the ground. In a swift movement, he picked her up from her waist, and kept her back on the ground. She was still lost in admiring him, despite him taking a few steps back.
"I didn't know you were so easily intoxicated by beauty," Damon teased her, with a broad smile.
Echo widened her eyes when she heard him. She whipped her head away from him, earning a chuckle from him. Her eyebrows creased as she thought to herself, 'How could you be so shameless and stare at him like an idiot? Ugh! This is embarrassing.'
Damon watched Echo's reactions with awe. He bit his lip, while watching her cute actions. He had no doubt that she was embarrassed that he caught her staring at him. "Don't worry. I'll take great care of you."
Echo turned her gaze to him. What did he just say? She gave him an embarrassed smile, and turned around to face the railing. Closing her eyes she berated herself, 'How could you be so stupid? I have so much work to do, and the only thing I can think of right now is him.' She wanted to hit her head on the railing.
Damon hid his smirk, and stood beside her, leaning his hands on the railing. "I don't see why you have to be so embarrassed. We've already kissed a few times."
Echo creased her eyes while closing them. She opened them, and turned to Damon, "Let's continue our conversation we had before this."
"Oh! I was just continuing it, you were so caught up in admiring my perfect looks that you didn't hear anything that I said," he teased her, with a stoic expression. He was using all his energy to hide his smirk.
Echo sighed, turning back towards the railing. She knew that he was not going to stop teasing her anytime soon, but she replied to his previous question, "To answer your question about destiny and fate… I was just curious."
He tilted his head and raised his eyebrow, while staring at the large training field that was now empty. "You've asked me the same question twice," he showed his index and middle finger up like the peace sign.
She simply nodded her head, and watched the stars again. "Damon."
"Hmm?"
"Have you ever wondered if all this is a curse or a blessing?" she asked, turning her head to face him. It was a question she had always pondered, but could not get a proper answer. At first being resurrected was like a curse to her. The training was too much for her to endure, but over time she got used to it, and now seeing Damon again made her feel like it was more of a blessing than a curse.
"It depends on what you want it to be. But checking the facts… So far, the only blessing I've got is seeing you again," Damon replied as honestly as he could. He had never wanted to be like the other demons, but after the car accident, he felt lost. Echo's family had always been so nice to him since the day he first met them. So it was hard for him to imagine them gone.
