Chapter 56 - What’s Your Problem?

'Is anyone even in this room or not?' Echo thought to herself as she waited for someone to open the door. It felt like she was standing for an eternity. Was she in the wrong room? Maybe she should knock on more doors, and then she'll eventually find Rose's room.

Just when Echo was about to leave for another door, the room door opened. Rose stared at Echo with a wet towel wrapped on her hair.

"What do you want?" Rose asked, rudely. She glared at Echo, and bit the insides of her cheeks.

Echo gulped. She was not expecting to get the correct door on the first go, but now she had, and she hadn't planned anything well. What was she going to do?

Taking a deep breath, and without thinking too much she stated, "We need to talk!"

Rose chuckled mockingly, "Why do I have to talk to you? Did you forget what I told you earlier? I've been here for longer, which makes me the boss of you."

Echo sighed, grabbing Rose's arm, she dragged her across the hallway.

Rose tried to remove Echo's hand from her, and eventually started screaming, "WHAAT DOO YOUU THIIINK YOU'RE DOOING?"

Echo ignored Rose's screaming, but when she began flailing her arms, Echo got hit. She let Rose's hand go, and then turned to her.

"What's your problem??!!" Echo asked. She glared at Rose, almost as if she was going to kill the girl.

Rose slapped Echo, "What's my problem? What's your problem? You can't just drag me across the hallway and then act like I did something wrong. You are the one in the wrong!"

Echo gave out a short stifled laugh that was almost like a sigh. "I told you that we needed to talk! Why couldn't you take that as a friendly cue to chat, instead you were acting like the spoiled little brat that you are!"

Echo noticed the change in Rose's face, it turned red, and she was about to burst out in anger. It was nothing for Echo to take out a human, but Echo was waiting for a huge crowd to gather around, but nothing of the sort happened just yet.

Instead of getting angry, Rose began to cry. Tears streamed down her cheeks, "I'll… t… tell D… Damon what you did!" Rose screamed in between sobs.

'Oh no! What did I just do?' Echo thought to herself, as she began to panic. 'Why doesn't anything here go according to plan? Where are the other demons who work here? Where's Damon? And why isn't Rose fighting back? She talks like she'll rip my head off, but now she's crying. Ugh! What do I do?'

Rose closed her face with her hands, as she continued to wail loudly. She pulled the towel off her hair, and cleaned her tears.

Echo stared at Rose in a state of panic and shock. This was the first time she had been so shocked by someone's reaction that she was speechless, and frozen. If Rose had thrown a punch at her, it would have been easier, but now she had no idea how to react.

"What's happening here?" the voice of an old lady reached Echo's ears.

Echo whipped her head to the side of the owner of the voice. She stood watching the lady, who turned out to be the butler of the mansion.

Rose rushed over to the butler, "The Protector is really mean! She tried to hurt me."

The butler glared at Echo, and hugged Rose. The butler's eyes turned dark, as she stretched her hand towards Echo.

Echo knew what was coming for her, but she couldn't protect herself. She did not have her sword, so she could not block the magic of the demon.

The butler sent out a telekinetic push at Echo. Echo felt the push on her body, and she flew back onto the wall, and fell to the ground.

Echo sat on the ground, and felt a shuddering pain in her ribs. She glanced at the butler, who was still stretching out her hand, but this time she was squeezing her hand slowly.

Coughing up some blood, Echo sat motionless. 'I probably deserved this for messing with Rose. I need to fight back.' She slowly began to stand up, despite the pain increasing.

The butler's eyes widened, and she squeezed her hand into a full fist.

Echo closed her eyes, while enduring the severe pain. She felt like passing out, but she did not give into that feeling. She felt anger as the pain became nearly unbearable. "Revelioro!" Echo whispered and her clothes began changing. She stared at her hand, hoping that her sword would appear in her hand.

She thought for a while, and sighed. "Revelioro!" Echo mumbled under her breath, and her clothes turned back to normal. It was clear to her that fighting back would only make things worse. She was supposed to be working for Damon, what would everyone think if she fought back against his staff.

"Sorry! I just wanted to talk to her," Echo replied, after spitting out blood. Despite not fighting back, she glared at the butler.

The butler glared back at Echo, and walked Rose back to her room.

Echo sighed, coughing, "Could you at least make a proper plan before doing anything. You're so stupid."

"You are stupid!" Damon stated, casually walking towards Echo with his hands in his trouser pockets.

Echo was embarrassed. How long had he seen that? Why didn't he step in? The humiliation was eating at her. How could she not be embarrassed? She was one of the best warriors, and she couldn't even fight a human and a demon. What would he think about her?

Damon stopped in front of her, "Nothing to say, I see."

"Huh?"

Damon smirked once he noticed the pink hue on her cheeks. Was she embarrassed? He found it cute though. Then again anything she did was cute to him.

Echo wanted to shrink into the ground.
