Chapter 63 - I Hope I Do!

"Steak? You just want steak? Why not make it more fancy?"

"Fancy? Why would I want something fancy? I know what I'm picking, and I like it. Unless you have any recommendations, mister pick something fancy," Echo raised her eyebrows as her voice dropped a bit lower than usual and turned into a whisper at the end of her sentence.

Damon cleared his throat, "Just buy something more expensive!"

"Is steak not expensive enough for you?" Echo asked, she crossed her hands on the table and leaned forward as she continued without letting him answer, "I don't have any money on me, so what do you want me to buy?"

"Buy the most expensive thing on the menu! I'll pay for it!"

"But then you'll be wasting money! I like the steak enough, so I'll have the steak," Echo replied with a slight pout.

Damon sighed, "The steak is the cheapest thing on the menu, and you've had it multiple times, just have something new."

"Fine!" Echo took the menu card from Damon and stared at it for a while. 'I hate having to decide, and now that I finally did he's telling me that it's too cheap! What's the point of having money if you just want to waste it?'

After a while Echo lifted her gaze back up to Damon, "I'll have a grilled steak."

Damon facepalmed after seeing Echo's smug smile. 'What is wrong with her? I just want to treat her to something nice. Something she might have not had before.'

"What if I selected something for you?" Damon asked. He waited for Echo's response, and once she nodded her head he pressed the button on the table.

"Yes sir," the waitress entered a few seconds later with a bright smile. "Did you decide on what you are having?" The waitress glanced at Echo with and her smile turned into a glare, her smile reappeared when she looked at Damon.

"Two of these please," Damon replied, showing the card.

Echo simply watched as Damon ordered an appetiser, dessert and a drink. He was no doubt the opposite of her, he knew exactly what he was doing. She found this a quite attractive trait about him. It was easy to follow orders, but sometimes making decisions were a little too much for Echo.

The waitress gave Damon a sweet smile before leaving. Echo chose not to react about it, despite feeling a little uneasy inside.

"Now that that is out of the way, I wanted to ask you something."

Echo froze up at the statement. What did he want to ask her about? Had she done something wrong? Did she not react the right way to the waitress? Why did he not continue? Why was he silently watching her?

"What is it?" Echo finally asked. She dreaded hearing the words he said. Was he already bored of having her as his girlfriend? That thought made her begin to sweat.

Damon had a calm demeanour, but when he noticed Echo's tense posture he felt uneasy, as if she was hiding something from him. "About what happened with Rose earlier. I just wanted to ask you not to make her feel weak. She's been through a lot."

"Oh!" Echo sighed in relief. But she felt a sting in her chest, and now she was curious about Rose. Why was he so caring towards her? "What's her story? You two seem quite close."

Damon nodded, "Rose was almost killed by demons when I found her. She reminded me of you at first. She was sweet, quiet, and gentle. She was terrified when I first met her. I asked the demons to let her live with me, and I'll work for them. I guess from there on I treated her like a little sister."

"A little sister?" Echo accidentally voiced her thoughts out. Her eyes widened, but she immediately hid them.

Damon nodded, "Yeah!"

Echo smiled, and went back to her thoughts, 'Phew! That was close, but did he just say that she reminded him of me, and that she was sweet, quiet and gentle. I am not sweet, or gentle. I am not anymore, right? I've killed demons… How am I sweet and gentle?'

Their dinner arrived, and Echo silently ate. Damon did not ask or say anything to her either. He was lost in his own thoughts.

'Why was she so tense when I told her that I had something to ask her? Is she hiding something from me? Or is this something to do with the witches too? Did they treat her right the past year? She barely talks about her time with the witches.'

They finished their meal, and Damon stood up to escort Echo outside. He walked over to her, and held her hand as he led the way out.

Echo was confused. Why didn't he pay for the food? She looked at Damon as they waited for their bikes, "Why didn't you pay?"

"I don't need to pay for my own food," Damon replied.

Echo's eyes widened as she realised, 'The restaurant is his? How rich is he?'

Damon laughed, "Don't look so surprised, I've told you on many occasions in the past that my parents had a lot of money." He stood in front of her, and leaned closer to her ear as he whispered, "Perks of having a demon as a dad."

Echo felt Damon's breath tickle her ear, but he soon pulled away after finishing his sentence. She smiled at him, and watched their bikes being brought to them.

Echo and Damon arrived at the mansion. It was rather late, and Damon walked Echo to her room.

"Sleep tight, and I hope you have some fun dreams," he winked as Echos opened the door to her room.

With a broad smile she replied, "I hope I do!"

Damon swiftly moved closer to her, and put his hand around her back and kissed her lightly.

Echo felt giddy just by his hand on her lower back, and when he kissed her, her mind went crazy. She did not know what to do. The kiss was short and light. Damon then pulled her in for a hug, and kissed the top of her head.

"Good night!" Echo finally found the strength to say something to him as he slowly leaned out of the hug.

"Good night!" he replied back, as he turned into a dark smoke and vanished.

Echo closed her door and shrieked with excitement.
