A Screw Up

"I know," Darius said tiredly. "I do. Really. Just because one problem is out of the way doesn't mean I'm out of the woods yet. But the sight of her holding my snake did weird things to me, man."

Hunter laughed. "I know what you mean. I had a similar reaction when Gwen held Princess. Be strong."

He didn't want to be strong. He knew it was the smarter thing to do but he wanted to allow himself to get swept away. There was something seriously wrong with him.

Darius didn't want to be alone anymore. He wanted a family. A warm one that actually cared about him, like the one he had lost. Not like the ones in foster care. If it was with Becca, he believed it would be possible. She was such a sunny person.

Always smiling, always affectionate. She had already filled his dreary apartment with warmth both times she had been here. He could only imagine what that would be like on a permanent basis.

"Do I have to?" Darius asked in a small voice.
